Men's Basketball Preview: Lee, UAH

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's basketball team will return home for a pair of games, opening on Thursday night when they host Lee University. Tip-off in A.E. Wood Coliseum is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The Choctaws will then welcome Alabama Huntsville to Clinton on Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. tip-off.

SCOUTING MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE

The Choctaws are led by 15th-year head coach Don Lofton, who has posted a career record of 217-165 (.568). He is joined on the bench by first-year assistant coach Alex Ainsworth and former Choctaw Otis Harvey as a graduate assistant. Last time out, MC fell to Lee University at home as the Flames shot over 60% from the field in a 74-64 loss.

Junior Brandon Boston (15.0 ppg, 6.4 rpg) leads the team in scoring and rebounding and has put up double-figures in the last 12 games and 14-of-15 contests on the year. Senior Marcus Lytle (13.2 ppg) is also scoring in double-figures and is shooting a team-best 50% from the floor.

Senior Isaiah Austin (5.4 ppg) scored nine points against Lee and tallied a career-high three steals. Senior Howard Thomas (3.6 ppg) had a team-high seven rebounds with six points against the Flames.
 

SCOUTING LEE

The Flames are led by 3rd-year head coach Bubba Smith, who has his team with a 5-0 road record this season. Lee opened the season with just one win in their first six contests before winning eight straight. Since then, they have dropped three-of-four.

Colton Blevins (14.7 ppg) is the team's leading scorer, while Ryan Montgomery (13.1 ppg) has a team-best 6.3 rebounds per game and is shooting 63% from the floor. Michael McGuirk (11.3 ppg) is also scoring in double-figures for the Flames.
 

SCOUTING UAH

The Chargers are led by 22nd-year head coach Lennie Acuff. UAH has won four of their last five games, including a 70-58 victory at Delta State on Thursday night.

JJ Kaplan (12.2 ppg, 7.4 rpg) tallied a double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds against the Lady Statesmen, going 9-of-15 from the field. Sam Orf (14.1 ppg) leads the team in scoring and is shooting 46% from the three-point line. Seth Swalve (11.2 ppg) is also scoring in double-figures and leads the squad with 4.1 assists per contest.
 

GAME NOTES

This will be the 8th all-time meeting between the two schools with MC holding a 4-3 edge in the series.

The Choctaws are 2-1 when the teams play in Clinton, including a 90-83 victory the last time they played in Mississippi (Feb. 11, 2017).

MC went to Cleveland in 2018 and grabbed an 87-75 victory over the Flames, led by Brandon Boston with 32 points on 11-of-16 shooting.

This will be the 14th all-time meeting between UAH and MC with the Choctaws holding a 7-6 edge in the series.

The Choctaws won the first six contests between the two schools and the Chargers went on to win the next five.

Both teams won their home games last season, including a 105-93 victory for MC that saw Donovan Ham score 25 points.
 

Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and will be competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
