Women's Basketball Preview: Christian Brothers, Union

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team returns to Gulf South Conference action on Thursday, Jan. 17 as it travels to Memphis, Tenn., to face Christian Brothers University. Tip-off at Canale Arena is slated for 5 p.m. The Lady Choctaws wrap up the week on Saturday, Jan. 19 in Jackson, Tenn., against seventh-ranked Union University. Tip at Fred DeLay Gymnasium is marked for 2 p.m.

GAME NOTES / PREVIEW 
•   Mississippi College looks to snap a three-game, losing streak as it travels to the Volunteer State this week. The Lady Choctaws fell 58-54 to Valdosta State and 87-70 to West Florida last week on its home floor. The Lady Choctaws' current skid also includes a 74-56 setback at West Georgia on Jan. 5.
•   Two Lady Choctaws are averaging double figures this season in the scoring column. Junior Zariah Matthews paces the team with 11.4 points per contest while junior Coco Hobson averages 10.2 points. Matthews leads the team with eight games this season with double-digits while Hobson is one game back of her fellow junior.
•   Hobson registered the teams only double-double this season in a 13-point win over Christian Brothers earlier this season. The Brandon, Miss., native scored 15 points and grabbed a season-high 18 rebounds in the victory. The 18 boards is tied for most in a single-game in the conference this season. West Florida's Toni Brewer also pulled down 18 boards at Columbus State on Dec. 8.
•   The Lady Choctaws are 3-0 against schools from the State of Tennessee this season. The Navy and Gold picked up wins over Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference members Lane College and LeMoyne-Owen in November along with the GSC victory over Christian Brothers on Dec. 17.
•   Senior Zan Ratcliffe ranks fifth in the GSC in assists per game this season. The Taylorsville, Miss., product averages 3.4 assists per contest. Ratcliffe has totaled 44 assists this season, which ranks sixth in the conference in 13 games.
•   Mississippi College looks for a season sweep of Christian Brothers after topping the Lady Bucs, 63-50, earlier this season. MC has won two of the last three meetings. The Lady Choctaws are 2-1 in Memphis. CBU leads the overall series 5-3.
•   Christian Brothers enters Thursday's outing with a 5-8 record and 2-6 in the Gulf South Conference. CBU snapped a three-game slide on Thursday, Jan. 10 with a 77-63 victory at West Alabama. The Lady Bucs fell in their last contest, 96-59, at Montevallo.
•   CBU has three players averaging double figures in scoring this season led by Kenzie Jones with 13.8 points. Brynne Lytle averages 12.7 points and Kelsey Adkins with 12.3 points. Adkins also paces the team with 5.6 rebounds per game.
•   Mississippi College seeks its first win in the series with Union. The Bulldogs hold a 7-0 advantage in the series.
•   Union sits 15-1 this season and 7-1 in the league. The only setback came on Jan. 3 against in-state and conference foe Lee University, 56-51. UU currently rides a three-game win streak with decisions over UAH and at Auburn Montgomery and West Alabama.
•   Morgan Martin leads a trio of Bulldogs with double-digits in the scoring column. Martin averages 16.2 points per game. Jada Smith sits second on the team with 13.1 points followed by Jada Perkins with 11.4 points. Tiffany Rechis sits just outside the double figures scoring group with 9.4 points. Martin leads the team with 9.1 boards per contest.
Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and will be competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
