CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team returns to Gulf South Conference action this weekend as it travels to the State of Georgia for a pair of matches. MC opens on Friday, Sept. 28 at Valdosta State University with a 4 p.m. start. The Choctaws finish the road trip on Saturday, Sept. 29 against the University of West Georgia at 1 p.m. Both times are central.

VALDOSTA STATE SERIES: Mississippi College looks for its first win in series history against Valdosta State University. The Blazers have claimed all seven meetings between the two programs.

BREAKING DOWN BLAZERS: Valdosta State has lost three of its last four contests with the lone victory coming against Auburn Montgomery in four sets on Sept. 21. The Red and Black are 6-11 on the season and 3-2 at the Complex. Chloe Chubilleau leads VSU with 170 kills on the season which ranks seventh in the GSC. Chubilleau also ranks second in service aces. Tammy Reyes-Perez leads the GSC in total assists with 572.

WEST GEORGIA SERIES: Mississippi College and the University of West Georgia meet for the 11th time in series history on Saturday. The two teams have split the previous 10 meetings with UWG tying the series with a sweep last season. The streak snapped four straight by the Choctaws.

BREAKING DOWN WOLVES: West Georgia has won two of its last three outings entering the weekend with victories over Auburn Montgomery and Valdosta State. The Wolves are 1-1 in the Coliseum this season and 7-5 on the season. McKenna Wharton ranks in the top 10 in the conference in kills per set and points per set.

YOUTHFUL ABUNDANCE: Mississippi College stands as the third, youngest volleyball team in Division II this season. The Choctaws are the youngest team in the Gulf South Conference barely edging out Union University with five sophomores, two juniors and a senior along with the 11 freshmen. Union has three sophomores, three juniors and two seniors on their squad. Bloomsburg (Pa.) University leads Division II with 23 freshmen following by Tusculum (Tenn.) University has 15 freshmen on their 2018 roster.

PLATT CLOSES IN ON 200 KILLS: Freshman
Kendall Platt is narrowing in on 200 kills this season. The Anaheim, Calif., native has totaled 192 in her debut season. Platt seeks to become the first freshman to reach the milestone since former Choctaw
Krista Zieschang accomplished the feat in 2014. Zieschang finished 223 which ranks ninth in program history in single-season kills.

BROWN REACHES 500: Senior
Jill Brown recorded her 500th career dig on Saturday at Christian Brothers. The Elkhart, Ind., native is inching her way towards the top 10 in program history in the category. The 246 digs this season rank fourth in the Gulf South Conference as she averages 4.39 per set - also fourth in the conference.

FRESHMEN LEADING OFFENSIVELY: Freshmen are leading Mississippi College offensively in 2018.
Kendall Platt leads the team with 167 kills this season and ranks among the top three in the GSC.
Jamie Boros joins her freshman teammate with 155 total kills which ranks ninth in the conference.
Rylee Markham and Lexi Laurendine have helped set the table for the offensive attack. The freshmen, setter duo have totaled 519 of the Choctaws' 618 assists this season. Laurendine and Markham each rank in the top 15 in the league in assists.

NEXT UP: Following the weekend, road slate, Mississippi College returns to A.E. Wood Coliseum on Tuesday, Oct. 2 as it faces the University of West Alabama. The match is the first of three home outings during the week. MC hosts the University of Montevallo on Saturday, Oct. 6 in its third annual Crohn's Awareness match.
