Baseball Preview: Southern Arkansas

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team will travel to Magnolia, Ark. to take on the Muleriders of Southern Arkansas University in midweek action on Tuesday, April 24 at 5:00 p.m.

STORYLINES AND NOTES
In their most recent work, the Choctaws (28-12, 17-8 GSC) took two of three games from Gulf South Conference foe West Alabama this past weekend in Clinton. The Choctaws clinched a spot in the GSC Tournament for the second-straight season with their 13-4 game one win in game one of the series on Friday, April 20.
 
Southern Arkansas hold a 4-1 advantage in the brief series history between the two schools. MC took the most recent meeting between the two, knocking off the Muleriders 4-3 in 12 innings in Clinton on April 5th of the 2017 season.
 
The Choctaws currently sit in fourth place in the Gulf South Conference standings. With three GSC games left on their slate, the Choctaws sit just a half game back of Montevallo and West Florida in the second-place spot.  
 
The Choctaws are hitting .324 as a team, a mark that ranks second in the GSC. Junior first baseman Blaine Crim ranks fifth in the conference with a batting average of .380. Crim paces the Choctaw's offense in hits (60), home runs (9) and RBIs (48).
 
Luke Yancey (.364), Billy Cameron (.363) and Kyle Smith (.358) mark for three other Choctaws in the lineup hitting above the .350 mark for the season. 
 
On the mound, Chris Crosby (5-3) has posted a team-best 68 strikeouts in a team-high 70 innings pitched, while also pacing the Choctaw staff with five wins. Zack Ingram (4-0) leads the Choctaws with two complete-game efforts, while also boasting a team-low 3.16 ERA.
 
Relievers Ryan Lane and Austin Chastang have combined for seven of the Choctaws 12 saves on the season. Chastang's opponents' batting average of .206 marks for the team low.
 
Southern Arkansas (28-15, 20-10 GAC) took two of three games from Arkansas Tech in their most recent work this past weekend in Magnolia.
 
Jacob Richardson (.361) leads a Mulerider offense hitting (.288), while also leading the team in hits (60), doubles (16), home runs (10) and RBIs (56). Dakota Wright (38) and Jake Tisevich (32) have both also driven in 30-plus runs on the season, with Tisevich ranking third on the team in batting average at .333.
 
Kenneth Tabor and Jacob Stroder lead the Mulerider staff with a team-high eight wins apiece.
 
Reliever Eric White sports a team-low 2.08 ERA, while holdings opponents to a miniscule .178 average. 
 

Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and started competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
