CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team dropped a 10-5 midweek contest to the number 15-ranked Boll Weevils of Arkansas-Monticello on Tuesday evening. With the loss, the Choctaws record now sits at 26-11 overall.
Â
TURNING POINT
- The Choctaws took a 3-1 lead into the fifth inning of the contest, but would see it disappear as the Boll Weevils would score eight runs, with four unearned runs, on five hits and two errors in the inning. The eight run inning loomed large, providing the Choctaws with too large of a hole to climb out of.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After going down 1-0 in the top of the second, the Choctaws would respond in the bottom of the third inning, with three runs on three hits. A
Grant Barber RBI double, and a pair of RBI groundouts from
Billy Cameron and
Blaine Crim provided for the scoring action in the inning.
- Of the Weevils eight runs in the fifth inning, five of them came with two outs, as a pair of Choctaw errors saw the Boll Weevils presented with extra opportunities at the plate in the inning.
- The Choctaws would add a pair of runs in the sixth inning, all coming from a
Blaine Crim two-run homer to right field. The home run marked for Crim's team-leading eighth on the season.
- UAM would add an insurance run in the eighth inning, giving way to the 10-5 final.
