CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team punched their ticket to the Gulf South Conference Postseason Tournament with their 13-4 series-opening victory over the University of West Alabama on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Choctaws improve to 27-11 overall, and 16-7 against GSC opponents.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Choctaws got on the board first in the game, when a
Luke Yancey single to right plated
Grant Barber to give MC the early 1-0 advantage.
- After seeing the Tigers pick up a pair of unearned runs in the second inning, MC would rally to score one run in the fourth and three runs in the fifth inning.
- The Choctaws saw their most productive inning of the evening in the fifth, as they sent 10 batter to the plate and scored five runs on five hits.
Hunter Wilson,
Brandon Broussard,
Ty Alderman and
Kyle Smith all drove in a run in the inning, with Alderman driving in two on an RBI single to right field.
- West Alabama would answer back in the top of the sixth inning, scoring their final two runs of the contest to make it a 7-4 game.
- The Choctaws would strike for three runs in the seventh, coming from a two-RBI double from Barber and an RBI groundout from
Billy Cameron.
- MC would add three more runs of insurance in the eighth. A Smith RBI single, a Barber RBI walk, and a Cameron RBI sac-fly accounted for the Choctaws scoring in the inning.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- The Choctaws outhit the Tigers 15-9Â in the game, with Smith's four-hit performance leading the way for MC. Smith also drove in a pair and scored a run.
- Barber drove in a team-high three runs on two hits in the contest, while Yancey, Cameron and Alderman all also drove in a pair of runs.
- Alderman, Wilson, Broussard and
Dylan Duplechain all scored a team-high two runs scored in the game.
- Gavin Rogers drove in a team-high two runs on a team-high three hits for the Tigers. Joel Murphy and Brock Montgomery accounted for West Alabama's other two runs driven in.

Chris Crosby (5-3) notched his fifth win of the year on the mound for the Choctaws, working six innings and surrendering just two earned runs.

Brandon Kennedy (1) picked up his first save as a Choctaw, tossing the final three frames of the game while allowing no runs and striking out two.
- Layton Dill (1-4) took the loss for the Tigers. Dill allowed six earned runs over 4.1 innings of work, while striking out three.

NOTEWORTHY
- Every batter in the Choctaw lineup recorded a hit and scored a run in the game.
- The Choctaws hit .480 (12-25) with runners on, and .400 (8-20) with runners in scoring position.
- The win over West Alabama marks for the Choctaws first victory over the Tigers since Feb. 26, 1995.

- The Choctaws will wrap up their series with the Tigers with a double-header from Dickins-Scoper Stadium on Saturday, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Prior to first pitch, the Choctaws will recognize their senior class as part of Senior Day festivities.
