Women's Basketball Preview: at Delta State

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team closes out the 2017-18 season on Thursday, Feb. 22 as it travels to Cleveland, Miss., to face in-state foe Delta State University. Tip-off at Walter Sillers Coliseum is set for 5:30 p.m.

THE SERIES
•    Mississippi College and Delta State meet for the 64th time with DSU holding a 54-9 advantage in the series. Delta State claimed a 58-38 win over the Lady Choctaws in Clinton earlier this season to run its win streak to two games. The Lady Choctaws look for their first win in Cleveland since Jan. 19, 1994.

MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE NOTES
•    Mississippi College looks to rebound from a 71-63 setback at the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Saturday, Feb. 17. MC enters the clash in the Mississippi Delta with a 9-16 record, including a mark of 5-14 in the Gulf South Conference.
•    MC shot 36.5 percent from the field while UAH connected on 44.2 percent, including a 40.9 clip from behind the arc. The Chargers also connected on 16 of 20 from the charity strip (80.0%).
•    A trio of Lady Choctaws scored in double figures led by Lauran Sheriff's team-best 17 points. Kelley Allen added 14 points while Ieisha Lacey chimed in 11 points.
•    Allen and Lacey led the Navy and Gold on the glass. Allen grabbed a team-best nine boards while Lacey pulled down eight.
•    Kaitlyn Thompson recorded a pair of blocks in the game as MC collected four total.
•    Mississippi College posted a season-low nine miscues as it forced UAH into 20 turnovers.
•    Allen, Sheriff and Lacey continue to lead the Navy and Gold in scoring this season. Allen averages a team-best 12.5 points while Lacey and Sheriff are tied for second on the team with 10.3 points per game.
•    Allen also guides MC on the glass with 9.0 rebounds per game, which is third in the conference.

DELTA STATE NOTES
•    Delta State enters the Thursday, in-state clash 11-14 on the season and 9-10 in the GSC after falling 54-42 against Lee University on Saturday, Feb. 17. Despite the loss, the Lady Statesmen clinched a spot in the GSC playoffs. 
•    Takisha Jordan led the way with 13 points for the Green and White in the clash with the Lady Flames. It marked the 21st time this season that Jordan scored in double-figures.
•    Alondrea Rush joined Jordan in double-digits as she added 10 points for DSU.
•    The Lady Statesmen shot 21-percent from the floor (10-for-28), including a 2-for-13 mark from three. DSU added a 20-for-28 (71 percent) mark from the free throw line.
•    Lee outrebounded Delta State 42-37 and outscored DSU 24-10 in the paint.
•    Delta State looks for its first season sweep of the Lady Choctaws since 2016.
•    Rush paces DSU in the scoring column this season with 15.2 points per game while Jordan ranks second on the team with 13.9 points.
•    Raven Johnson leads the Green and White in rebounds with 6.5 per game while Simone Jackson averages 6.0 boards.
