Volleyball Preview: West Georgia, Valdosta State

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team closes out the 2018 campaign this weekend with a pair of Gulf South Conference matches at A.E. Wood Coliseum. The Choctaws open the weekend slate on Friday, Nov. 2 against the University of West Georgia. First serve against UWG is set for 6 p.m. MC closes out the season on Saturday, Nov. 3 on Senior Day against Valdosta State University. First serve is set for 12 p.m.

WEST GEORGIA SERIES: Mississippi College and West Georgia meet for the 12th time on Friday evening. The Wolves hold the series record at 6-5 after getting the last three outings in the series, including a four-set win earlier this season in Carrollton.
 
BREAKING DOWN THE WOLVES: UWG enters the weekend after dropping its last five outings, including being swept by Auburn Montgomery on Tuesday evening. McKenna Wharton leads the Wolves with 245 kills with three others above the century mark in kills. Niah Bruce paces the Red and Blue at the net with 76 total blocks.
 
VALDOSTA STATE SERIES: Mississippi College seeks its first win in the series with Valdosta State. Saturday's meeting is the ninth between the two schools. The Choctaws pushed VSU to five sets earlier this season in Valdosta - the first time the two squads have battled to the deciding set.
 
BREAKING DOWN THE BLAZERS: VSU fell in its Tuesday evening tilt against West Florida in four sets and travels to West Alabama for a Friday night affair before coming to Clinton. The Blazers have three players with 200-plus kills led by Chloe Chubilleau with 277. Jessie Mooney sits second on the team with 255. Kayla Widera proves to be the leader at the net for the Red and Black with 101 total kills.
 
SENIOR DAY: Mississippi College will recognize its lone senior Jill Brown prior to the match against Valdosta State on Saturday. Brown has been a two-year letterwinner at libero for the Choctaws after coming to Clinton following a two-year stint at Ancilla College.
 
LAURENDINE CRACKS SINGLE-SEASON ASSISTS LIST: Freshman Lexie Laurendine moved into the top 10 in single-season assists this past weekend as she distributed 12 assists at West Florida on Saturday. Laurendine sits 10th with 517 and is 29 assists from tying Kelly Gauthreaux (2006) for ninth on the list.
 
FROST CRACKS TOP 10 IN BLOCKS: Sophomore Autumn Frost sits 10th in career block assists with 99. The Largo, Fla., native is one block assist from ninth and 15 from moving into eighth in program history. With her 69 block assists this season, she ranks fourth and is four from moving into second. Her 86 total blocks in 2018 are seventh and she's five from moving into the top five.
 
MAYS AMONG CAREER KILLS LEADERS: Redshirt junior Shelby Grace Mays placed her name among the top 10 in career kills in Mississippi College history. Mays ranks eighth in program history with 541 and is 27 from catching Ashton King in seventh.
 
BROWN IN THE RECORD BOOK: Senior Jill Brown etched her name in the Mississippi College record book as the Elkhart, Ind., native recorded her 756th career dig and sits sixth in school history. She's three digs from moving into the top five and six from taking fourth. Brown's 493 digs this season ranks third in a single season and she's two taking moving into second.
 
PLATT SETS SIGHTS ON SINGLE-SEASON KILLS MARK: Freshman Kendall Platt moved to third in single-season kills with 326. Liz Mullin (1994) holds the single-season kill record with 410 while Chandra Landry (1996) is second with 372.
 
BOROS MOVES ONTO SINGLE-SEASON KILLS LIST: Freshman Jamie Boros moved to fifth in single-season kills with 284. Boros is 12 kills from moving to fourth on the list. Liz Mullin (1994) holds the single-season kill record with 410 while Chandra Landry (1996) is second with 372. Teammate Kendall Platt sits third with 326.

LAURENDINE SEVENTH NATIONALLY in TRIPLE-DOUBLES: Freshman Lexie Laurendine ranks seventh in NCAA Division II Volleyball in triple-doubles this season. Laurendine registered her third triple-double on Oct. 20 against Spring Hill College with 10 kills, 21 assists and 10 digs. She is the only player in the Gulf South Conference with a triple-double this season and the only player in MC history with multiple triple-doubles. Former Choctaw Amanda Torres recorded the program's first in a five-set win over Nova Southeastern last season.
Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and will be competing for conference and national championships in the 2018-19 academic year.
