CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team returns to action this weekend as the Choctaws travel to Orlando, Fla., for the NCAA Division II South Region Crossover against the Sunshine State Conference. Play begins on Friday, Oct. 19 against Eckerd College at 1:30 p.m. central. MC closes out the Crossover on Saturday, Oct. 20 against Florida Tech at 3:45 p.m. central. Sandwiched between the two SSC schools is a match against Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference addition Spring Hill College on Saturday at 9 a.m. central.

BREAKING DOWN THE TRITONS: Eckerd has dropped five of its last six contests, including a 3-1 loss against nationally-ranked Tampa in its last outing. The lone win during the span came in a sweep of Rollins College. Paula Hoffman paces EC with 196 kills on the season while Rachel Wisian leads the team with 66 total blocksÂ

SPRING HILL SERIES: Spring Hill leads the all-time series 5-1. Mississippi College picked up its lone win in the series on Sept. 7, 2001 in Mobile.

BREAKING DOWN THE BADGERS: Spring Hill is 22-3 this season and 16-0 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Kassandra Fairly leads SHC with 206 kills with Cassidi Sterrett leading the team with 372 digs.

FLORIDA TECH SERIES: Florida Tech leads the series against Mississippi College. The Panthers have taken both meetings between the two squads - both coming in the NCAA Division II South Region Crossover.

BREAKING DOWN THE PANTHERS: Florida Tech broke a four-match, skid with a 3-1 win over Nova Southeastern last Saturday. Kelly Germain leads the FIT with 220 kills on the season while Olivia Hersey paces the squad with 86 total blocks.

Shelby Grace Mays placed her name among the top 10 in career kills in Mississippi College history. Mays ranks 10th in program history with 515 and is 11 from reaching eighth, which is held by former Choctaw

Ashton King in seventh.

Jill Brown etched her name in the Mississippi College record book as the Elkhart, Ind., native recorded her 674th career dig and sits 10th school history. Robyn Faulkner sits in ninth with 689 career digs.

PLATT SETS SIGHTS ON SINGLE-SEASON KILLS MARK: Freshman
Kendall Platt moved to fourth in single-season kills with 284. Rebecca Crane also holds the third-highest total set in 2006. Platt is is 34 kills from the top three in single-season kills. Liz Mullin (1994) holds the single-season kill record with 410 while Chandra Landry (1996) is second with 372.

BOROS MOVES ONTO SINGLE-SEASON KILLS LIST: Freshman
Jamie Boros moved to ninth in single-season kills with 242. Boros is just 20 kills from making the top five in single-season kills and matching Rebecca Crane with 262.

LAURENDINE RECORDS SECOND TRIPLE-DOUBLE: Freshman
Lexie Laurendine became the first Choctaw in program history to record two triple-doubles. The Clinton, Miss., native totaled 11 kills, 28 assists and 13 digs in the setback at Loyola. The feat comes on the heels of her first collegiate triple-double set against the University on Montevallo on Oct. 6.

YOUTHFUL ABUNDANCE: Mississippi College stands as the third, youngest volleyball team in Division II this season. The Choctaws are the youngest team in the Gulf South Conference barely edging out Union University with five sophomores, two juniors and a senior along with the 11 freshmen. Union has three sophomores, three juniors and two seniors on their squad. Bloomsburg (Pa.) University leads Division II with 23 freshmen following by Tusculum (Tenn.) University has 15 freshmen on their 2018 roster.
