FIRST SERVES
•   Mississippi College opened Gulf South Conference play with a straight sets win (25-18, 25-23, 25-23) over Auburn Montgomery on Tuesday evening. The conference opening victory is the first since 2011, a five-set win over East Texas Baptist.

Ashton King and sophomore
Julia Martin posted a career-highs in the three sets. King recorded a team-best 13 kills in the win over AUM while Martin added a career-best 17 digs.

Autumn Frost and
Amanda Torres along with King each tallied season-bests. Frazier posted a season-highs with 11 kills and eight digs while King added five digs. Torres supplied a season-high six kills in the match while Frost totaled a season-high five blocks.

•   King broke into the career kills category on Tuesday. The Collierville, Tenn., native is tied with Rachel Janssen with 484 kills during her four seasons in Clinton.

•   The Lady Choctaws have won five their last six matches with the win over AUM on Tuesday. The Navy and Gold has posted victories Loyola (La.), Grambling State, Arkansas-Monticello and Texas A&M International during the stretch. The lone setback came in a four-set decision at Southern Arkansas.

Kayana Mitchell was named GSC Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts last week. Mitchell becomes the first volleyball player to earn player of the week laurels since Rachel Farmer and
Holly Tupper earned American Southwest Conference Player of the Week laurels on Oct. 9, 2012.

Shelby Grace Mays continues to pace the MC offense with 115 kills this season while Mitchell is five kills away from breaking the 100-kill mark.
Sydney Chandler has directed the offensive effort with 224 assists as she continues to chip away at the program leaderboard.

•   Mays and Martin each have 100 digs on the campaign with 116 and 100 respectively.
Jill Brown is narrowing in on the 100 digs with 91. Mitchell leads the way at the net defensively with 40 total blocks.

•   Five Lady Choctaws face off against a school from their home state. Mays (Arab) and
Hannah Rue (Muscle Shoals) hail from the northern part of the Yellowhammer State while Martin (Daphne), Chandler (Silverhill) and
Makenzie McLendon (Mobile) call the southern part of the state home.

•   West Alabama has claimed wins in four of its last five outings this season, including a straight set victory over Miles College on Tuesday evening. The Tigers have wins over Tuskegge, Union and Dillard also during the stretch. The lone loss over the last five contests came against North Alabama.

•   Briana Sandifer leads the offensive attack for West Alabama. Sandifer has totaled 163 kills this season and reached the 1,000 kill plateau in a 3-0 win over Malone University on Sept. 8. Sandifer and Alex Fuelling have notched over 100 digs this season as Fuelling has a team-best 165 followed by 108 from Sandifer. Jamie Lancellot leads the defensive charge at the net with 38 total blocks.

•   Saturday marks the conference opener for UWA despite playing fellow GSC opponents Union and North Alabama last weekend at the UNA Volleyball Classic.

•   Following the Saturday tilt against UWA, Mississippi College returns to the road to close out the month of September as it makes GSC road trips to Union, Shorter and Lee.
