CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team takes a nine-game, win streak into this weekend's Gulf South Conference series against the University of North Alabama. The series opens on Saturday, Apr. 8 with a doubleheader slated for 2 p.m.

SERIES
  • Mississippi College and North Alabama meet for the 45th time in the series on Saturday. The Lions hold the all-time advantage at 35-8-1 and have won nine of the last 10 contests. MC's last win in the series came Mar. 27, 1996 in a 9-5 decision in Clinton, Miss.
 
MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE NOTES
  • The Choctaws have claimed 10 of their last 11 GSC contests heading into the weekend, including back-to-back sweeps against West Georgia and at Valdosta State.
  • MC extended its win streak on Wednesday with a 4-3, extra inning, walk-off victory over No. 8 Southern Arkansas. The outcome was the fourth win over a nationally-ranked opponent this season and the first over the Muleriders in program history.
  • Chance Whitten and Kyle Smith lead the Navy and Gold at the plate in GSC play. Whitten has a .403 batting average, which leads the team, while Smith is hitting .400 in the league. Casey Echols paces the team with 31 hits in conference play, which is two more than Whitten.
  • Hunter Lacefield and Hunter Mullis each have three wins in GSC action and the duo rank first and second in strikeouts. Lacefield has totaled 27 punch-outs this season while Mullis has registered 26. Tim Holloway and Tommy Taborda each have 22 in league play. Lacefield has totaled 32.0 innings – the most on the squad – with a 2.81 ERA. Mullis has tossed 24.1 frames with a 3.33 ERA followed by Zack Ingram's 26.0 innings and 3.81 ERA.
  • Echols leads the MC offense with a .391 batting average. Smith sits second on the team with a .352 clip followed by Whitten's .339. Blaine Crim touts 23 RBI, which leads the team, followed by Whitten with 22 and Will Elliott's 21.
  • Taborda leads the hurlers with 38 strikeouts with Holloway a close second with 34. Ingram and Jake Fraze lead the team in innings on the mound. Ingram has 42.1 frames while Fraze has totaled 41.1.
 
NORTH ALABAMA NOTES
  • The Lions have won their last two contests and five of their last six heading into the weekend. The lone blemish during the stretch came in a 4-2 loss against UAH in the second game of the Saturday doubleheader last weekend. The Purple and Gold logged a 4-0 win over Trevecca Nazarene on Tuesday.
  • UNA stands 6-8 in games away from Mike Lane Field. The Lions last road game came on Mar. 26 at Delta State – a three-game sweep by the Statesmen.
  • Drake Tucker leads UNA at the plate with a .353 batting average this season and is second in hits with 42. Kyle Hubbuch paces the squad with 45 hits and 33 RBI and ranks second on the team with a .346 batting average.
  • Tyler Joyner has a team-best 64 strikeouts for the Purple and Gold and eight of the 21 wins on the mound. Joyner has pitched a team-leading 66.1 innings. Channing Wall has three of the Lions' five saves this season in 16.1 innings and a 1-1 record along with a 2.20 ERA.

  • Mississippi College returns to action on Tuesday, Apr. 11, following the GSC series, as it travels to Arkadelphia, Ark., to face Henderson State. The seven-inning, twinbill is slated for a 3 p.m. start.
