CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team returns to Gulf South Conference action on Sunday, Apr. 23 as it travels to Cleveland, Tenn., to face Lee University. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 12 p.m. central.

THE SERIES
- Mississippi College and Lee meet for the seventh time in program history on in the opening game on Sunday with the Flames holding a 5-1 advantage in the series. MC looks for its first win in Cleveland entering the weekend. The Navy and Gold's win in the series came in the second game of the twinbill last season in Clinton, a 3-2 victory.

MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE NOTES
- The Choctaws currently sit eighth in the GSC standings entering the weekend and a game and half ahead of Lee with the top eight team in the league earning berths into the GSC Tournament. With only six, GSC games left on the ledger, this weekend is pivotal to earning a spot into the tournament field.
- MC has won four of its last six GSC series despite dropping the last two at home against North Alabama and UAH.
- The Choctaws claimed a 10-4 win during the midweek over Spring Hill College to push their record to 17-22 overall. The victory avenged a prior setback to the Badgers earlier this season in Mobile.
- Four Choctaws are hitting over .333 this season led by Chance Whitten's .353 clip. His 47 hits rank second on the team behind Casey Echols' 48 hits. Echols sits second on the team with a .348 batting average. Hunter Wilson and Kyle Smith round out the quartet. Wilson is hitting .341 this season followed by Smith with a .339 clip.
- Hunter Mullis and Hunter Lacefield lead the Choctaws' pitching staff with four wins this season. Mullis, who was named GSC Pitcher of the Week for his shutout, 12-strikeout effort against UAH over the weekend, has a team-best 4.10 ERA and 48 strikeouts. Lacefield has registered a 4.61 ERA. Zack Ingram leads the staff with 52.2 innings of work and 4.96 ERA.

LEE UNIVERSITY NOTES
- The Flames are 24-19 this season and 11-16 in the GSC action after taking two of three from Christian Brothers last weekend. Lee fell in the series finale 5-4 at CBU.
- Geremy Walton and Nathan Wierzgac are hitting .350-plus on the campaign. Walton leads the duo with a .354 batting average while Wierzgac is batting .350 and has a team-best 30 RBI.
- Wes Albert and Joe Parete each have a team-leading five wins this season while Rob Gustitus has a team-best 56 strikeouts. Â
