VALDOSTA, Ga. --- The Mississippi College baseball team claimed its fourth, consecutive Gulf South Conference series as it claimed a doubleheader at Valdosta State on Saturday afternoon. The Choctaws, who have won seven straight and 10 of their last 11, blanked VSU 6-0 in the opener and followed with a 6-3 win in the night cap.
 
MC looks for its second, straight conference sweep on Sunday, Apr. 2. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m. central.
 
KEY STATS
Game One
	- Three Choctaws recorded multiple hits in the contest led by Hunter Wilson with three hits (3-for-5). Chance Whitten and Grant Barber each logged two hits in the victory. Kyle Smith turned in the lone multi-RBI effort with a two.
- Hunter Lacefield (3-1) claimed the win on the mound with 6.0 innings of work in the start. Lacefield struck out two allowed two hits. Tim Holloway (1) tossed the final 3.0 innings for his first save of the season as he held the Blazers hitless with four strikeouts.
 
Game Two
	- Four Choctaws had multiple hits in the night cap led by Hunter Sykes and Smith with knocks each. Wilson and Whitten each added a pair.
- Hunter Mullis (3-2) picked up the win on the mound with 4.1 frames of action in the start. Mullis held VSU scoreless with five hits allowed and five strikeouts. Shelby Craddock tossed the final inning in relief and secured his first save of the season without allowing a hit and a strikeout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
	- The Choctaws received a strong pitching performance as Valdosta State was held to just two hits in the contest – the fewest hits garnered this season by an opponent.
- After a scoreless six frames of action, the Navy and Gold broke the deadlock with four runs in the top of the seventh. Smith got the scoring started with a two-RBI single up the middle as it pushed Grant Barber and Hunter Austin across the dish. Smith later scored on a fielder's choice to extend the lead to 3-0.
- Blaine Crim drove in the final run of the inning with a single through the right side that plated Wilson.
- The Choctaws added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth as Smith stole home and Wilson scored on a bases loaded walk.
 
Game Two
	- After leading early 1-0, the Choctaws posted three runs in the third inning to increase their lead to 4-0. Crim drove in the second run of the frame with a single to right field following Smith scoring on a Blazer error. Grant Barber added the final run of the frame with a sacrifice fly to right to score Crim.
- MC plated another run in the fourth and Smith added a run in the sixth with a bunt single that pushed Sykes across for a 6-0 lead.
- Valdosta State totaled its only runs in the final two trips to plate, but the Choctaws derailed the late, rally attempts and keep the Red and Black at bay. VSU left a total of seven runners on base in the last three innings, and 12 total for the game, including bases loaded in the sixth.
