HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
  • The Choctaws received a strong pitching performance as Valdosta State was held to just two hits in the contest – the fewest hits garnered this season by an opponent.
  • After a scoreless six frames of action, the Navy and Gold broke the deadlock with four runs in the top of the seventh. Smith got the scoring started with a two-RBI single up the middle as it pushed Grant Barber and Hunter Austin across the dish. Smith later scored on a fielder's choice to extend the lead to 3-0.
  • Blaine Crim drove in the final run of the inning with a single through the right side that plated Wilson.
  • The Choctaws added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth as Smith stole home and Wilson scored on a bases loaded walk.
 Game Two
  • After leading early 1-0, the Choctaws posted three runs in the third inning to increase their lead to 4-0. Crim drove in the second run of the frame with a single to right field following Smith scoring on a Blazer error. Grant Barber added the final run of the frame with a sacrifice fly to right to score Crim.
  • MC plated another run in the fourth and Smith added a run in the sixth with a bunt single that pushed Sykes across for a 6-0 lead.
  • Valdosta State totaled its only runs in the final two trips to plate, but the Choctaws derailed the late, rally attempts and keep the Red and Black at bay. VSU left a total of seven runners on base in the last three innings, and 12 total for the game, including bases loaded in the sixth.
