Ingram No-Hits VSU; Choctaws Sweep Series

VALDOSTA, Ga. --- Mississippi College pitcher Zack Ingram tossed a no-hitter as the Choctaw baseball team blanked Valdosta State, 10-0, to sweep its second straight, Gulf South Conference series.

KEY STATS
  • Ingram's no-hitter becomes the first since Blake Mcilwain no-hit Louisiana College on Apr. 12, 2014 in a 2-0 victory. The freshman from Vestavia Hills, Ala., allowed just three base runners through 8.0 innings in the complete game win.
  • Five Choctaws registered multiple hits in the contest led by Casey Echols and Hunter Austin with three hits each. Kyle Smith, Chance Whitten and Austin Warkentin each added a pair of knocks in the outing.
  • Warkentin paced the team with three RBI while Hunter Sykes joined the senior with a multi-RBI effort as he drove in two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Choctaws wasted no time denting in the scoreboard in the finale as they plated six runs in the top of the first inning. Chance Whitten, Austin, Grant Barber, Austin Warkentin, Hunter Sykes and Hunter Wilson each drove in runs as MC totaled seven hits.
  • The Navy and Gold added a run in the top of the fifth as Blaine Crim drove in Smith on a ground ball out.
  • VSU's Max Abramson snapped a streak of 13 straight retired by Ingram as he reached via hit by pitch. The Blazers loaded the bases in the frame, but MC diverted the big inning and left the bags full.
  • Warkentin helped increase the lead in the top of the sixth with a sacrifice fly that played Austin.
  • After Warkentin singled in the eighth to score Whitten, Sykes added the 10th run in the game with a single to score Austin.
