CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team returns to the diamond on Tuesday, Mar. 28 as it faces William Carey at Frierson Field at Dickins-Scoper Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

THE SERIES
  • Mississippi College and William Carey have met 40 times heading into Tuesday's outing with the Crusaders leading the series 30-10 despite the Choctaws taking both meetings last season. MC claimed a 6-3 victory in Clinton, Miss., in the first affair and followed with a 12-4 win in Hattiesburg, Miss.
 
MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE NOTES
  • The Choctaws look to continue their win streak in the midweek tilt after running it to four consecutive with a three-game series sweep over the weekend against West Georgia. The Navy and Gold have won seven of their last eight.
  • Hunter Sykes led MC at the plate over the weekend with a .667 batting average (6-for-9) with a double, two RBI and four runs scored. The Columbus, Miss., native also drew a pair of walks in the three-game series.
  • The Choctaws had seven batters hit over .300 during the weekend. Hunter Wilson joined Sykes with a team-best six hits (.500) while Will Elliott drove in a team-leading six RBI.
  • Hunter Mullis paced the Navy and Gold on the mound with a 1.29 ERA in a complete-game, 7.0 inning performance. The Columbus, Miss., product allowed just one run on four hits with four strikeouts and a walk. The complete-game was the first of any Choctaw hurler this season.
  • Tim Holloway and Jake Fraze each logged wins in relief appearances. Neither allowed an earned run in the outings. Fraze tossed 4.1 frames with four strikeouts and three hits with a pair of walks. Holloway pitched 5.1 frames and fanned a team-best five hitters and surrendered three hits and a walk.
  • Casey Echols continues to pace MC at the plate with a .364 clip at the dish with a team-best 32 hits while Chance Whitten has driven in a team-leading 19 RBI coupled with seven home runs to lead the squad.
  • Tommy Taborda has struck out 33 opponents to lead MC this season while Hunter Lacefield, who leads the team in ERA with a 4.18, along with Mullis are tied with 27 each. Zack Ingram leads the team with 34.1 innings of action.
 
WILLIAM CAREY NOTES
  • The Crusaders dropped two of three against the University of Mobile over the weekend and three of its last four, including a midweek loss against West Alabama. Prior to falling to UWA, WCU had won six straight.
  • James Land leads William Carey with a .385 average and has registered 41 hits on the season. Tyler Graves paced the Red and Black with 43 RBI. On the mound, Cole Edgens and Devin Smith have fanned a team-best 43 hitters. Smith, Edgens and Braden Smith have each tallied a team-best five wins to lead the Crusaders.
 
NEXT UP
  • Mississippi College returns to Gulf South Conference action this weekend as it travels to Valdosta, Ga., to face Valdosta State in a three-game series. First pitch of Saturday's doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m. Sunday's finale is slated for 12 p.m. Both times are central.
