CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team scored five unanswered runs to rally and top the University of West Georgia in the first game of a three-game, Gulf South Conference series on Thursday evening.
 
KEY STATS

• The Choctaws picked up three, multiple hit efforts in the victory, led by Chance Whitten's 3-for-3 evening with a double and home run. Hunter Austin and Kyle Smith each added a pair of hits to join the Batesville, Miss., native.
• Will Elliott joined Whitten also with a home run in the contest as he led the team with two RBI in the contest.
• Tim Holloway (1-3) logged his first win of the season with 5.1 innings in relief. The Mobile, Ala., product struck out five – one shy of his season-high - in the win and held the Wolves' at bay with no runs on three hits.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• West Georgia jumped out to an early 5-1 lead through four innings, including a four-run, fourth frame.
• MC began the rally in the bottom of the fifth with a pair of runs on the home run from Elliott – his third of the season.
• The Choctaws added another in the sixth to clip the deficit to a run as Whitten sent his seventh, home run of the season over fence.
• After Whitten tied the contest in the eighth, as he scored on a Grant Barber RBI single, Smith drove in the game-winning run a batter later with a single through the left side that plated Austin.
• Holloway tossed three hitless innings in the contest and only allowed two base runners after entering to close out the fourth frame.
