LIVINGSTON, Ala. --- A pair of walk-off hits lifted the University of West Alabama baseball team to a doubleheader sweep over Mississippi College on Saturday, Feb. 25. UWA rallied to take the opening game of the twinbill 10-9 before claiming a 9-8 in the nightcap.

Game 1
Chance Whitten led MC with three hits while
Hunter Bolin and
Hunter Sykes joined Whitten with multiple hits with a pair of hits each.

MC led 9-7 heading into the bottom of the ninth, but a throwing error allowed the Tigers to score a pair of runs to deadlock the contest. Luke Phillips popped up a bunt single that scored Taylor Stafford, who reached on the error allowing the first two runs of the inning.

The Choctaws led 6-1 through the first two innings.
Will Elliott led the scoring onslaught with a two-run, double in the first inning to assist MC to a 3-1 lead after the first inning.

Grant Barber and
Hunter Bolin logged RBI singles in second inning to expand the advantage to 5-1 and
Chance Whitten lifted a sacrifice fly to plate the final run of the three-run inning.

A pair of Tiger home runs in the bottom of the second narrowed the deficit to a run and a Josh Willingham RBI single in the third gave UWA its first lead of the game at 7-6.

Whitten responded in the top of the fourth with his fourth home run of the season and his drove a ball over the right field wall to score
Blaine Crim and give the Choctaws an 8-7 lead.
Hunter Austin followed later in the inning with a bunt to score Whitten and give MC a 9-7 lead.

Hunter Lacefield took the loss on the mound with 6.1 innings of work in a relief appearance. Lacefield allowed three runs – all unearned – on three hits with nine strikeouts.

Game 2
The Choctaws rallied from six down in the first inning to tie the contest at 6-all in the third inning, but a Dylan Little RBI-bunt single in the seventh assisted the Tigers with their second walk-off hit of the day to clinch the twinbill.

MC garnered its first run in the second inning and used a pair of two-RBI hits in the third to headline the third frame and force the tie. Sykes, who led the team with a pair of hits in the game, and
Brandon Broussard each drove in a pair of runs in the third. Sykes double forced the draw and scored Broussard, who singled to pull MC within a pair of runs.

Hunter Wilson gave the Navy and Gold its first lead of the game with a RBI single in the sixth inning and Barber added a sac fly to left field, which scored Wilson, to give MC an 8-6 advantage.

UWA responded in the bottom of the inning with two runs to tie the game for the second time.
Â
Hunter Mullis took the loss on the bump for MC as he allowed three runs – two earned – on three hits in 3.0 innings of relief. Mullis walked three and fanned three in the decision.

 The series finale is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. at Tartt Field.
