GAME NOTES
- The Choctaws are led by 13th-year head coach
Don Lofton, who earned his 200th career victory on December 3rd in an 83-65 win over Selma.
- MC has a chance to do something in 2016-17 that has not been accomplished in 10 years with three players scoring 300 points in the same season. Junior
Antonio Johnson (308) has already turned the trick, while Haynes (299) and junior
Stacey Mack (293) are on the cusp. The 2006-07 season saw D.J. Jones (424), Timothy Broomfield (332) and Marcus Evans (308) score at least 300 as the Choctaws went 27-3 and advanced to the Division III "Sweet Sixteen".
- Despite going just 1-5 in the last six games, the Choctaws have been competitive, dropping a double-overtime thriller to GSC-leading Valdosta State (100-98) and losing 4-of-5 games by six or fewer points. Over that stretch, MC snapped a 10-game losing streak with a 90-83 win over Lee (Feb. 11).
- In that span, Haynes (17.5 ppg) is the team's leading scorer, shooting 52% from the floor and dishing out 20 assists. Johnson (17.3 ppg) is just behind, shooting 55% from the three-point line, while Mack is averaging 12.5 points and 8.8 rebounds per contest.
- The Bulldogs, led by 8th-year head coach David Niven, are still battling for a GSC Tournament spot, needing a win on Satutrday to clinch a berth. Union has lost three straight, including an 85-75 home defeat to Delta State on Thursday night.
- Freshman Tray Boyd (15.2 ppg) is the team's leading scorer and has been named GSC Freshman of the Week four times this season. He is shooting 41% from the three-point line on the year.
- Charlie Wilson (13.7 ppg), Jarad Scott (13.5 ppg) and Ashanti Day (11.1 ppg) are also averaging in double-figures with Scott pulling down a team-high 8.1 rebounds per game.
