Baseball Preview: Arkansas-Monticello

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team returns to Frierson Field on Tuesday, Mar. 7 as the Choctaws host the University of Arkansas at Monticello. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
 
Tuesday marks the 25th meeting between Mississippi College and Arkansas-Monticello with the Choctaws holding a 20-14 advantage. The two squads last met on April 6, 2004 with MC claiming an 11-6 win in Monticello to clinch a doubleheader sweep. The last meeting between the two schools in Clinton came on April 21, 1996 with MC blanking the Boll Weevils 5-0 - clinching a three-game series 2-1. MC is currently riding a three-game win streak against UAM.
 
Mississippi College looks to snap a three-game skid on Tuesday as the Choctaws dropped a three-game, Gulf South Conference series at Shorter University over the weekend. MC is 4-5 at Frierson Field this season.
 
Logan Ferrell leads the Choctaws at the dish as the senior is batting .407 this season. Ferrell has a team-best 26 hits this season just ahead of Hunter Bolin with 25. Bolin is second in batting average with a .379 clip. Blaine Crim and Caleb Upton tie for tops on the team in RBI with 11 each while Toler Robinson is third with 10 RBI.
 
On the mound, Tyler Scholl has registered a 0.69 ERA in 11 appearances this season and is tied for fourth with 12 strikeouts. Samuel Harrison leads the team with 32 strikeouts this season and is second in innings pitched with 29.1 Jake Fraze leads the team in innings with 33.1 and is second in K's with 25.
 
Arkansas-Monticello had a four-game win streak snapped on Sunday in a 4-0, Great American Conference loss to Northwestern Oklahoma State. UAM is 3-0 against the Gulf South Conference this season with wins over Delta State and one over Union.
 
Nick Piraino leads UAM at the dish with a .333 batting average. Piraino is second with 19 hits while Kevin Fitzpatrick leads the squad with 21 and is second with 14 RBI. Corey Woods paces the team with 17 RBI.
 
Dawson Moser has a team-best 2.16 ERA in eight appearances for the Boll Weevil hurlers. Grant Black and Zach McKnight rank first and second in strikeouts with 28 and 27 respectively.
 
Following the midweek affair, Mississippi College returns to action on Saturday, Mar. 12 as it travels to Union University. The Saturday twinbill is slated for a 2 p.m. start with the series finale on Sunday scheduled for 1 p.m. in Jackson, Tenn.
