Tuesday's contest marks the 39th meeting between the two schools with the Crusaders holding a 30-8 advantage in the series. WCU claimed a 5-3 decision on Apr. 8, 2015 at Frierson Field - the first meeting between the two schools since the 1995 campaign.
Mississippi College skipper
Jeremy Haworth has never faced William Carey in his five seasons while longtime Crusaders' head coach Bobby Halford is 13-7 against the Choctaws in his tenure in Hattiesburg.
The Choctaws are coming off a 2-1 Gulf South Conference series win over Christian Brothers over the weekend. The series win marks the first for the Navy and Gold in the GSC since its return to Division II.
Austin Warkentin led the squad at the dish going 4-for-9 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Garrett Odom paced the team in RBI with six as he recorded three hits, including two home runs during the stretch.
Jake Fraze and
Tyler Scholl picked up the wins on the mound as the duo combined for six strikeouts and with just two earned runs allowed on nine hits allowed in 7.1 innings of work.
On the season,
Hunter Bolin leads the team with a .385 batting average. The senior has 30 hits - which ranks second on the team.
Caleb Upton leads the team in RBI with 15 on the season. On the mound, Fraze has tossed a team-best 46.0 frames and is second on the team in strikeouts, behind
Samuel Harrison's 36, with 31 on the campaign. Scholl leads the team in ERA with a 0.49 in 18.1 innings pitched in 15 appearances.
William Carey is riding a five-game win streak heading into the midweek outing after taking a pair of contests vs. Blue Mountain on Saturday. Tyler Odom leads the Crusaders at the dish batting .416 on the season with 32 hits - which is second on the team. Adrian Brown leads the squad with 33 hits while Nick Lowe heads up WCU with 25 RBI. Mason Woodrow and J.D. Little has each tossed 40-plus innings to lead the Crusaders. Little leads the team with 35 strikeouts while Woodrow is second with 27 punch outs. WCU as a staff has seven pitchers with 10-plus innings of work and a sub 4.00 ERA.
Following the midweek tilt, Mississippi College travels to Carrollton, Ga., to face the University of West Georgia in a Gulf South Conference series. The two squads will face off in a single game on Friday, Mar. 25 beginning at 4 p.m. central followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 26 slated for a Noon central start.
