Women's Basketball Preview: Delta State

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team hosts in-state and Gulf South Conference foe in the 2015-16 season finale on Thursday, Feb. 25. Tip is slated for 5:30 p.m. The Lady Choctaws will honor its four seniors Kristen Sampson, Allie Hill, Shaniqua Love and Khadijah Jones following the contest.
 
Thursday marks the 60th meeting between Mississippi College and Delta State University. The Lady Statesmen lead the series 51-8. The Lady Choctaws have claimed four wins in Cleveland and four in Clinton. MC claimed the contest last season at A.E. Wood Coliseum while DSU won at Walter Sillers Coliseum to close out the Lady Choctaws' season. DSU claimed a 60-40 win in Cleveland earlier this season. The two squads have faced three times at neutral sites (Columbus, Miss., Jackson, Miss. and Starkville, Miss.) with DSU claiming all three affairs.
 
Sampson, the team's leading scorer with 15.1 points per game this season, ranks 33rd among career scorers. The Jackson, Miss., native has tallied 680 points in her two seasons in Clinton. En route to becoming on the programs' top scorers, the guard ranks among the top 3-point shooters in school history. Sampson is third in 3-point percentage with a 37.9 clip, fifth in 3-pointers made with 66 and seventh in attempts with 174. Her final season ranks among the single-season leaders as well as she's fifth in 3-point attempts with 102 and fourth in makes with 37.
 
Fellow senior Hill also ranks among the top shooters from behind the arc. The Plainfield, Ill., native is seventh in program history shooting 34.3 percent and ninth in 3-pointers made with 46.
 
With a total of four blocks against Lee and Shorter last week, junior Carla Clemmons has made her mark among single-season leaders and now among the program's all-time leaders. The Rome, Ga., native has 46 blocks this season which ranks second in a single-season and stands tied for seventh in career blocks. Her block total ranks second in the conference behind Courtney Meyer of West Florida with 48. Clemmons is tied for the second leading scorer this season with 12.4 points per game and is second in rebounds with 6.5 per contest.
 
Chloe Roberts, who is averaging 12.4 points per game this season, rank among the single-season leaders in 3-pointers made and attempted during the 2015-16 season. The Reagan, Tenn., native is tied for ninth in makes with 30 in her first season with the team and is third in attempts with 105.
 
Toni Woods paces the Lady Choctaws on the glass with 7.0 boards per outing. The junior has five double figure rebounding efforts this season led by a season-high 15 against Christian Brothers. The Lafayette, La., native is also second in blocks with 21.
 
Delta State (18-6, 15-6 GSC) touts the second leading scorer in the GSC in Chelsey Rhodes. Rhodes averages 19.8 points per game this season. Becca Ruckes paces the Lady Statesmen on the glass averaging 6.1 boards. DSU fell 54-53 to Lee University in its last outing last weekend.
