THE SERIES
Delta State leads the series record with Mississippi College at 52-8, including a pair of wins last season. DSU has won nine of the last 10 outings against the Lady Choctaws. The lone victory during the span for the Navy and Gold came on Jan. 17, 2015 in Clinton - a 74-69 decision.
Thursday marks the earliest meeting between the two schools since Dec. 2, 1986. DSU won the contest 67-52 in Cleveland.
MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE NOTES
The Lady Choctaws gained its first win of the season in thrilling fashion as it rallied to knock off Henderson State on Nov. 22. MC placed four players in double figures in the win led by
Ashley Minor's 18 points.
In her first game of the 2016-17 season,
Toni Woods made a big impact in the win over Henderson State. The Lafayette, La., native posted 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds – one shy of tying her career-high set against Christian Brothers last season.
Lanae' Bickham and
Cortrice Golden each joined the double-digit, scoring producers in the victory. Bickahm tied Woods with 14 points while Golden added 13 points – both season-highs for the newcomers.
A pair of players are averaging double figures through the first two games this season. Golden's 12 points tops the team through the first two games. The Memphis, Tenn., product also has 7.5 rebounds per game. Minor has 11.5 points per game in her senior season.
DELTA STATE NOTES
Delta State sits 2-2 on the season after winning its last two outings of the season. DSU claimed a 76-52 win over Miles College on Monday evening. The Green and White also checked off a win against Southern Arkansas, 60-54. DSU's two losses this season came in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to Sunshine State Conference foes Nova Southeastern (64-44) and Barry (52-47).
Alondrea Rush and Aspriona Gilbert lead the Lady Statesmen with 11 points and 10 respectively while Kaelin Kneeland is averaging a team-best 8.3 rebounds.
