CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball looks to snap a two-skid at its travels to 14th-ranked Union University on Saturday, Jan. 30 for Gulf South Conference action. MC (5-12, 3-11 GSC) attempted a rally at Christian Brothers on Thursday evening, but fell 67-62. The nationally-ranked Bulldogs (18-2, 12-2 GSC) topped 22nd-ranked Delta State 59-51. Tip is slated for 2 p.m.
The SeriesSaturday marks the fourth meeting between Mississippi College and Union University. The Lady Choctaws seek their first win in the series against the Bulldogs. MC fell 74-59 against Union earlier this season at A.E. Wood Coliseum.
Clemmons Among All-Time, Single-Season Block LeadersWith a block against Christian Brothers, junior
Carla Clemmons has tallied 30 rejections this season moving her into the top 10 among single season leaders in school history. She stands four blocks away from climbing into the top 5.
Clemmons Adds Third Double-DoubleCarla Clemmons recorded her third double-double of the season at Christian Brothers. The Rome, Ga., native posted 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds against the Lady Bucs.
Long Range DangerKristen Sampson and
Allie Hill have proven to be dangerous from behind the arc as the duo ranks in the top 10 in 3-point field percentage. Sampson is sixth all-time with a 35.5 clip from behind the arc in just two seasons with MC. The Jackson, Miss., native is seventh in 3-point field goals made with 50 and is tied for eighth in attempts with 141.
Hill is seventh in program history shooting 34.5 percent from the 3-point line. The Plainfield, Ill., product is four 3-pointers made away from cracking the top 10 as she currently has 39.
Mississippi College LeadersKristen Sampson,
Chloe Roberts and
Carla Clemmons are each averaging double figures scoring this season. Sampson leads the trio with 14.3 points per game with Roberts just behind averaging 14.1 points. Clemmons rounds out the group with 12.6 points per game.
Toni Woods proves the catalyst on the glass with 7.8 rebounds per contest this season.
Breaking Down UnionUnion has a trio of double figures scores led by Tiara Caldwell with 14.1 points per game. Jada Smith ranks second on the team with 11.3 points per contest while Chelsea Bodiford rounds out the group averaging 10.5 points. Kelsey Risner is averaging 10.4 boards per contest. The Bulldogs lead the GSC in points per game, field goal percentage, 3-point field goal percentage and assists.
