CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team returns to the hardwood on Saturday, Feb. 23 as it hosts the University of West Alabama. Tip is slated for 2 p.m.
The SeriesMississippi College is 10-9 in the series against West Alabama despite dropping the last three outings against the Tigers. UWA logged a 69-64 earlier this season over the Lady Choctaws. MC is 6-2 all-time against the Red and White in Clinton.
Mississippi College LeadersA trio of Lady Choctaws are averaging double figures scoring led by Kristen Sampson's 14.5 points per game. Chloe Roberts sits second on the team averaging 14.1 while Carla Clemmons rounds out the trio with 12.5 points per contest. Toni Woods paces the effort on the glass with 8.0 boards per game. Clemmons ranks second behind Woods with 6.3 rebounds per contest. Breaking Down the TigersWest Alabama rides into Clinton riding a six-game, losing streak after falling at nationally-ranked Delta State on Thursday evening, 62-45. Ariel Wilson leads the Tigers in scoring and rebounds. The junior guard is averaging 15.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest this season. Carla Clemmons has tallied 27 rejections this season moving her into the top 10 among single season leaders in school history. She stands seven blocks away from climbing into the top 5.
Long Range DangerKristen Sampson and
Allie Hill have proven to be dangerous from behind the arc as the duo ranks in the top 10 in 3-point field percentage. Sampson is fourth all-time with a 37.3 clip from behind the arc in just two seasons with MC. The Jackson, Miss., native is seventh in 3-point field goals made with 50 and is 10th in attempts.
Hill is seventh in program history shooting 35.8 percent from the 3-point line. The Plainfield, Ill., product is four 3-pointers made away from cracking the top 10 as she currently has 39.
Woods Joins Double-Double ListFor the second straight outing a Lady Choctaw posted a double-double as
Toni Woods joined the group with 11 points and 10 rebounds against West Georgia. The point total tied a season-high for the Lafayette, La., native. Woods joins
