CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team returns to Gulf South Conference play on Sunday, Dec. 6 at the University of West Georgia after being edged at the University of West Alabama 69-64 on Thursday evening. Tip in Carrollton, Ga., is slated for 1 p.m. central.
The Lady Choctaws (2-2, 0-1 GSC) are 2-8 all-time against the Wolves after renewing the series last season. MC seeks its first win against UWG since Jan. 16, 1993 and its first in Carrollton, Ga., in program history.
Chloe Roberts led a quartet of Lady Choctaws in double figures with 17 points at West Alabama. It marked the third time this season that the Reagen, Tenn., native has led the squad in scoring and marks her fourth contest in double figures. The sophomore leads the team with 18.8 points per game in her first season with the Navy and Gold.
Kristen Sampson,
Carla Clemmons and
Allie Hill are averaging double-digits scoring this season for the Lady Choctaws. Sampson, who scored 12 points at UWA, averages 13.5 points per contest while Hill is averaged her season point production with 10 points on Thursday evening.
Toni Woods posted her first double figure outing of the season in Livingston, Ala., with 11 points. Clemmons is averaging 12.3 points per contest. The pair of post players guided the effort on the glass at UWA. Clemmons, who blocked a team-best and season-high five shots, also led the team with seven rebounds. The Rome, Ga., junior is averaging 5.5 rebounds per outing, which ranks second on the team. The five rejections at UWA move her to tops on the team with 11 on the season.
Woods, a junior from Lafayette, La., grabbed six boards last time out and leads the squad with eight on the campaign. She picked up the remaining two blocks at West Alabama and is second on the team with five.
West Georgia enters the contest winless after falling 58-45 against Delta State on Thursday night in The Coliseum. UWG (0-7, 0-1 GSC) is led by Katrina Littlepage, who is averaging 19.3 points per game this season. A'Kia Harris and April Levy pace the Red and Blue on the glass. Harris has tallied a team-best 5.3 boards on the campaign while Levy is second with four rebounds per game.
Following the Sunday outing, Mississippi College returns to the hardwood on Thursday, Dec. 10 as it hosts Union (Tenn.) University. Tip for the GSC contest is slated for 5:30 p.m.
