CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team looks to snap a three-game, Gulf South Conference skid as the Lady Choctaws (2-4, 0-3 GSC) host Christian Brothers University on Saturday, Dec. 12. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
The Saturday meeting is the third in the series between the two schools as they exchanged road wins last season. Both squads enter the contest looking for their first conference win of the 2015-16 season.
"We had a tough one last night against Union," said head coach
Paul Allen Duke. "We've seen where we need to improve looking at the film and we'll be ready to play against Christian Brothers tomorrow. They are a tough opponent, just like everyone in this conference. We'll need to be ready to play."
MC held Union below its season averages in field goal and 3-point shooting percentages, but were unable to topple the No. 9 Bulldogs at A.E. Wood Coliseum on Thursday night, falling 74-59.
Kristen Sampson led a trio of Lady Choctaws in double figures with 16 points.
Chloe Roberts added 13 while
Toni Woods tied a season-high with 11 points. Sampson and
Carla Clemmons led the Navy and Gold on the glass with eight rebounds each in the effort.
CBU (2-4, 0-3 GSC) enters the weekend outing having dropped its last three, GSC contests, including a 73-30 loss at Delta State on Thursday evening. Ashley Schaefer led the Red and Black with nine points against the Lady Statesmen and was tied for tops on the team with three rebounds. Rachel Lee and Samantha Reeves joined Schaefer in the category.
Roberts leads the Lady Choctaws in scoring this season. The Reagan, Tenn., native is averaging 16.8 points per game as she's second on the team in 3-point percentage connecting on 41.4 percent. The sophomore has led the team in scoring in three of the six outings this season.
Sampson and Clemmons join Roberts in double figures. Sampson sits second on the team in scoring with 13.7 points. The senior has paced the squad in scoring in two of the last three contests and has scored in double figures in 24 career outings. Clemmons, who ranks second in rebounds with 6.0 an outing, averages 12.5 points per game. The Rome, Ga., native paces the squad with 16 blocks.
Woods leads MC with 7.3 rebounds per game and is second in blocks with eight and steals with 11. The Lafayette, La., product has led the squad in three outings in boards.
On the season, Reeves leads CBU with 12.7 points per game and is second with 6.0 rebounds. Courtney Banks sits second on the team in scoring as she averages 11.3 points while Madison Luckett paces the squad on the glass with 6.5 boards.
Following the Saturday slate, Mississippi College returns to action on Thursday, Dec. 16 as it travels to the University of West Florida. Tip-off in Pensacola, Fla., is set for 5 p.m.
