CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team will play their first Gulf South Conference game since the 1995-96 season when they host the University of West Alabama on Thursday night in A.E. Wood Coliseum. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
This will be the 17th all-time meeting between the two schools with MC holding a 10-6 edge, dating back to their first meeting in the 1980-81 season, a 78-66 win for the Lady Choctaws. They have not played since the 1996-97 season when MC defeated UWA, 57-56. The Lady Choctaws have won four straight against the Lady Tigers.
Head coach
Paul Allen Duke earned his 335th victory last time out against Selma. He is the winningest coach in school history and has the highest winning percentage (.688).
The Lady Choctaws (4-0) open the 2014-15 season with six straight home games, winning their first four non-conference contests with victories over Spring Hill and Lane and two wins over Selma.
MC is shooting 44% from the field and holding opponents to just 30% in their first four games. They have not allowed more than 57 points to open the season and no team has shot better than 34% in a game.
Junior
Kristen Sampson is the team's leading scorer, averaging 13.5 points per game and shooting 56% from the field. She had a season-high 25 points in the victory over Lane College.
Senior
AnnMarie Harris has scored in double-figures in each of the first four games, averaging 11.8 points per game. She is also the team's leading rebounder (11.3 rpg) with a season-high 16 against Lane.
The Tigers (3-1) have won three straight since dropping the season opener to Miles. On Monday night, Britney McCloud posted 19 points and 11 rebounds in a 60-43 revenge victory over Miles. Head Coach Rusty Cram is in his first season at the helm after leading Belhaven for two years.
McCloud is the team's leading scorer (18.8 ppg) and rebounder (8.8 rpg) and is shooting 53% from the field. Kelcia Bufkin is averaging 8.8 ppg, while Sheila Washington pulls down 6.3 boards per contest.
