CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team took the first set from Valdosta State, but the Blazers came back for a four-set victory over the Lady Choctaws on Friday night in A.E. Wood Coliseum.
The Lady Choctaws (4-12, 0-9 GSC) fell behind 16-14 in the first set, but following a timeout, MC was able to bounce back and pick up a 25-22 victory. The Blazers (9-3, 5-3 GSC) took over from there with victories over the next three sets (25-14, 25-13, 25-14).
Freshmen
Kayana Mitchell and
Krista Zieschang led MC with eight kills apiece, while Mitchell posted three block assists. Freshman
Sydney Chandler had 16 assists to go along with 12 from sophomore
Meredith Williams. Senior
Holly Tupper led the team with 11 digs in the match.
Jenna Kirkwood led the attack for VSU with 16 kills and just four errors for a .353 hitting percentage. Kelsey Hedman and Destiny Berry piled up 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Jessica Codato ran an efficient offense with 37 assists to go along with four kills. Ashley Lala led the team with 16 digs, while Berry had a match-high six block assists.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Sunday afternoon when they host the University of West Florida at 2:00 p.m. in A.E. Wood Coliseum.
