CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi College assistant women's tennis coach Colleen Roberts has been named the 2026 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II Women's National Assistant Coach of the Year after helping lead the Choctaws to one of the most successful seasons in program history.
In her first season with Mississippi College, Roberts played a key role in transforming the program as the Choctaws compiled a 27-2 overall record, completed an undefeated regular season and advanced to the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship semifinals.
Roberts helped assemble one of the nation's top rosters, highlighted by the addition of Emily Buchanan, who finished the season ranked among the nation's top five in both singles and doubles. Under Roberts' guidance, every player in Mississippi College's starting lineup earned a national ranking during the season.
The Choctaws also earned a signature victory over perennial national power Barry in the NCAA South Regional final, securing the program's first trip to the national championship site.
Known for her expertise in doubles strategy and player development, Roberts helped Mississippi College establish one of Division II's strongest doubles lineups. The Choctaws claimed the doubles point in all but a handful of matches throughout the season, providing a consistent advantage that fueled the team's historic run.
The ITA annually recognizes assistant coaches who demonstrate excellence in coaching, player development, recruiting and leadership. Roberts' impact was evident across every facet of the program, from recruiting and match preparation to the development of nationally ranked players.
Her recognition marks another milestone for a Mississippi College women's tennis program that enjoyed a breakthrough season and established itself among the nation's elite in Division II.
