Nationally Ranked Tennis Teams Sweep Valdosta State, Women Remain Undefeated

PENSACOLA, Fla. — Mississippi College men's and women's tennis continued its dominant spring on Friday, sweeping Valdosta State in a neutral-site Gulf South Conference matchup at the University of West Florida Tennis Complex.

The Choctaw women, ranked No. 7 nationally, rolled to a 7-0 victory over the No. 16 Blazers to remain unbeaten at 19-0 overall and 7-0 in GSC play. MC claimed the doubles point and carried that momentum into singles, winning all six courts in straight sets or decisive fashion.

Individually, the Choctaws showcased their depth and national presence. No. 2 Emily Buchanan led the way with a convincing straight-sets win at the top spot, while No. 60 Rocio Martinez and No. 64 Katharina Weber added ranked victories in singles play. In doubles, the nationally ranked pairing of Buchanan and Ann Cabot Stockett secured a key win to help MC take early control.

On the men's side, Mississippi College, ranked No. 18 nationally, earned a 6-1 victory over Valdosta State to improve to 13-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

The Choctaws captured the doubles point behind strong performances from the tandem of Mattia Ricci and Matias Ruiz, as well as Joshua Hinton and Charles Lefort. In singles, MC won five of six courts, highlighted by victories from No. 27 Matias Ruiz and No. 54 Mattia Ricci. Mikayel Avanesyan, Sergio Ramirez Ocana, and Lucas de Carvalho also delivered strong performances to secure the win.

With the victories, both programs continue to build on impressive national resumes, featuring multiple ranked players and doubles teams while maintaining momentum in GSC competition.

Mississippi College returns to action on Wednesday, April 8, hosting West Alabama in a conference matchup at the MC Tennis Complex in Clinton. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
