Choctaws Combine for Five Wins in Dominant Arkansas Road Swing

FORT SMITH, Ark. — Mississippi College's men's and women's tennis teams turned in a dominant weekend in Arkansas, combining for five wins across Sunday and Monday to continue strong starts to the 2026 spring season.

The Choctaw women improved to 8-0 overall, while the men moved to 5-2. On Sunday, both squads swept the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, 7-0.

Sunday: UAFS Swept

The women opened the trip with a commanding performance against UAFS. Mississippi College claimed the doubles point and rolled through singles play without surrendering a match.

In doubles, Rune Van Wyk and Katharina Weber earned a 6-2 win at No. 1, while Anna Hudson and Rocio Martinez Azcarraga secured a 6-1 victory at No. 2. The Choctaws carried that momentum into singles, where Emily Buchanan, Weber, Van Wyk, Ann Cabot Stockett, Wambui Taylor and Mariana Munoz each collected straight-set victories.

The men matched that effort later in the day, blanking UAFS 7-0.

Mattia Ricci and Matias Ruiz set the tone with a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, and Mikhail Avanesyan and Charles Lefort followed with a 7-5 victory at No. 2. In singles, Ricci, Ruiz, Avanesyan, Florian Walcher, Sergio Ramirez Ocana and Lucas Cavalcanti de Carvalho all posted wins as the Choctaws completed the sweep.

Monday: Women Stay Perfect

Mississippi College's women kept rolling early Monday morning with a 4-0 victory over Henderson State.

Buchanan and Stockett clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win at No. 1, and Weber and Van Wyk added a 6-2 result at No. 2. In singles, Buchanan, Martinez Azcarraga and Van Wyk secured straight-set wins to seal the match.

The Choctaws closed out the trip Monday afternoon with another 4-0 victory, this time over Ouachita Baptist.

Buchanan and Stockett claimed a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, and Van Wyk and Weber matched that score at No. 2. In singles play, Stockett, Hudson, Munoz and Taylor each recorded wins as Mississippi College remained unbeaten on the season at 8-0.

Monday: Men Top Ouachita

The MC men wrapped up the road swing with a 6-1 win over Ouachita Baptist on Monday afternoon.

After dropping the doubles point, the Choctaws responded by winning five of six singles matches. Ruiz, Avanesyan, Walcher, Ramirez Ocana and Cavalcanti de Carvalho all earned victories to secure the team win.

Mississippi College returns to action this weekend in Clinton. The Choctaws will host UT Tyler on Friday before welcoming Lynn University on Saturday. Matches are scheduled to be played at the MC Tennis Complex.
