CLINTON, Miss. --- Mississippi College opened the 2026 regular season and Gulf South Conference play in dominant fashion Tuesday afternoon, sweeping Christian Brothers 7-0 in both the men's and women's matches.
Men
The Choctaws 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the Gulf South Conference secured the doubles point with wins on all three courts. Ricco Ruiz and his partner earned a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles, while the teams of Ramirez and Ocana and Lefort and Avanesyan each posted 6-2 wins to complete the sweep.
MC carried that momentum into singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets.
Ricco earned a 6-4, 6-4 win over Ben Hannot at No. 1 singles, and Ruiz followed with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 2. Avanesyan was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at No. 3, while Ramirez Ocana took a 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 4.
Walcher dominated at No. 5 with a 6-0, 6-0 win, and Carya closed out the sweep at No. 6 with a 6-0, 6-4 victory. The Choctaws did not drop a set in singles play.
Women
The Lady Choctaws 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the Gulf South Conference matched the men's effort with a 7-0 victory of their own.
Mississippi College claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Emily Buchanan and Ann Cabot Stockett earned a 6-2 victory on Court 1, while Rune Van Wyk and Katharina Weber rolled to a 6-0 win at No. 2. The No. 3 doubles match was decided by default.
In singles, MC again controlled the action.
Buchanan secured a 6-2, 7-6 win at No. 1, and Rocio Martinez posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2. Anna Hudson and Stockett each recorded 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, while Wambui Taylor and Mariana Munoz were awarded wins by default at No. 5 and No. 6.
Mississippi College returns to action Tuesday, Feb. 17, hosting Spring Hill College at 1 p.m. CT.
