No. 21 Choctaws Sweep UIndy in Series Finale Doubleheader

CLINTON, Miss. --- No. 21 Mississippi College baseball closed out its four-game series with No. 30 Indianapolis as it swept in a thrilling doubleheader on Sunday, winning 3-2 in the first game and 6-5 to close out the weekend. MC improved to 3-1 on the season.

Alex Johnson, Creek Robertson and Cade Gadman each provided offense in the twinbill. Johnson totaled four hits in seven at-bats during the day with an RBI, Robertson and Gadman each went 3-for-7. Gadman drove in three runs on the day while Robertson added an RBI in the opening game.

"I am super proud of our guys this weekend," said head coach Jeremy Haworth. "It's always good to start off the weekend with three wins. I was really impressed with our pitching out of the bullpen this weekend. We've got to find some rhythm offensively, and I think we're kind of figuring that out towards game four. I am proud of our guys and the resiliency that they had after not playing yesterday and coming out here in the cold weather and I like how they are fighting through adversity."

In game one, the Choctaws repeated the conclusion to the opening game of the series with a bases loaded, walk-off walk as Will Langston scored Devon Crown, who singled to start the bottom of the seventh – the only lead of the game for the Blue and Gold.

MC trailed twice during the contest, but refused to fall. Gadman tied the contest at 1-1 in the bottom of the second with a single thru the right side, scoring Tyrus Washington. After UIndy regained the lead in the fifth, the Blue and Gold responded as Gadman singled to score Nick Slonaker, setting up the dramatics in the seventh.

Following Crown's single, Ty Murphy doubled to left field to put runners in scoring position with no outs. An intentional walk of Robertson loaded the bases and set the stage for Langston.

Kamryn Carlisle (1-0) allowed one run on two hits, but registered the victory in his MC debut with three innings in relief. Taylor Ballard tossed four frames in his first start of 2026, fanning three, walking a pair and allowing one run on one hit.

In the series finale, the Choctaws held off a late charge from the Hounds as they left two stranded in the top of the seventh with the tying run at third as Blake Gollott (1) picked up his first save of the season, fanning the final two batters.

After trailing for three innings, MC tied the contest in the bottom of the fourth and took its first lead of the game in the fifth with a pair of runs as Gadman drove in his third RBI of the day and later scored on a UIndy throwing error.

The Greyhounds pulled within a run in the top of the sixth, but Johnson garnered his second career home run as he relocated a ball over the left field wall, giving MC back its two-run lead. The home run was the second of the weekend for the Blue and Gold as Robertson notched the first on opening day.

Dylan Cope (1-0) pitched 2.2 innings in relief to garner the victory on the mound. He struck out one, walked one and allowed one run on four hits. Gollott tossed the final two-thirds of the game in the save. Carter Wells saw relief work while Tyler Swann pitched 3.1 in the start, allowing three runs on two hits alongside three walks and a strikeout in his MC debut.

MC returns to action on Friday, Feb. 6 as it travels to Dahlonega, Ga., to take on No. 29 North Georgia in a three-game series. First pitch of the series is set for 1 p.m. central.
