AIKEN, S.C. --- Mississippi College fell in straight sets to Augusta University at the Convocation Center on Saturday afternoon to close out the Peach Belt Conference-Gulf South Conference Crossover. MC moves to 3-7 on the season while the Jaguars improved to 7-2.
Emma Levingston led MC with eight kills and added two blocks, totaling nine points in the match.
Sophia Saxon facilitated the offense with 12 assists.
Cydney Mitchell contributed defensively with four block assists, bolstering the team's efforts at the net while
Samarin Kipple anchored the defense, recording a team-high 23 digs across the three sets.
The opening set saw a competitive exchange, with both teams trading points early on. The Blue and Gold tied the score 3-3 following a kill by
Rhaia Davey, and took a brief lead at 5-4 with a kill from
Felicity Pratt. Levingston's kill made it 11-10, but the Jaguars responded with a series of points to regain the advantage. MC called a strategic timeout trailing 20-18, but AU capitalized on their momentum, closing the set 25-20 with a decisive kill from Lauren Nelson.
The second set began with MC initially trading points with the Jags, highlighted by a kill from Levingston. The Blue and Gold then gained momentum with a four-point run, including a block by
Mary Grace Foster and Davey, concluding with a kill from Pratt. Despite this strong start, AU responded with a decisive 9-point run, including two consecutive service aces by Sydney Harrington, prompting MC to call a timeout. The set concluded with the Jaguars maintaining control and securing a 25-10 victory.
In the third set, The Blue and Gold showed resilience with early contributions from
Holland Williams and
Reese Regner, who assisted on several crucial points. Levingston emerged as a key player, recording multiple kills, helping to keep the score close. Despite strategic substitutions and a timeout called at 16-20 to halt Augusta University's momentum, the set concluded with the Jags pulling ahead, capitalizing on service aces and MC's service errors to secure a 25-17 victory.
