Towns Joins Women's Basketball Staff

She will serve as the Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator

CLINTON, Miss. – Mississippi College Head Women's Basketball Coach Rachel Travis announced the hiring of KāVonne Towns as the program's new Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator, effective June 2025.
 
Towns brings a wealth of experience at the NCAA Division I and II levels, most recently serving as an assistant coach at Jacksonville State University. Known for her leadership, recruiting acumen, and player development skills, Towns will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Choctaw basketball.
 
"We are excited to welcome KāVonne to the Mississippi College family," said Travis. "She brings high energy, a tireless work ethic, and a proven ability to connect with and develop student-athletes both on and off the court. Her experience and passion for the game make her a tremendous addition to our program."
 
Over the past several years, Towns has held coaching positions at Jax State, the University of South Alabama, and fellow Gulf South Conference member, the University of Alabama-Huntsville. At each stop, she has been heavily involved in recruiting, academic coordination, scouting, and player development. While at Jax State, Towns helped guide the team to improved academic performance, with a team GPA of 3.2 in the spring semester.
 
Towns began her collegiate coaching career as Director of Basketball Operations at her alma mater, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where she also starred as a student-athlete. During her playing career, she helped lead the Mocs to three straight Southern Conference Championships and NCAA Tournament appearances, serving as team captain her senior year.

Towns holds a Bachelor of Science in Sports and Leisure Administration from Chattanooga, with a minor in Business.
