MC Baseball Duo Earns CSC Academic All-District® Honors

CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi College baseball continues to thrive both on the field and in the classroom, as two student-athletes were named to the 2025 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® Baseball Team, announced Tuesday, June 3.

Infielder Logan Shurden and pitcher Holland Townes each earned a spot on the prestigious list, which honors the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance in athletics and academics.

This recognition places the duo among the top NCAA Division II players across the country who have excelled not only on the diamond but also in their academic pursuits. Both honorees will now advance to the national ballot for the CSC Academic All-America® Team, with first-, second- and third-team selections to be announced on July 1.

Shurden, a key part of the Choctaws' offensive success, added this academic honor to a standout season that included All-South Region recognition and leadership in multiple statistical categories. Townes was equally impactful—leading the league in starts and finishing ranked among the top five leaders in strikeouts.

The duo become the eighth and ninth players during the Jeremy Haworth era to earn the recognition.

The CSC Academic All-America® program recognizes honorees in four divisions (NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA) and is considered one of the most prestigious academic honors in collegiate athletics.

Mississippi College finished with 35 victories this season – the third most in program history – as the team reached the regional final for the first time in its Division II history and the third all-time.
