Choctaws Fall to Henderson State

CLINTON, Miss. --- Korey Cooper's two-run home run in the first inning gave Mississippi College baseball an early jolt, but Henderson State University's offense was relentless as it picked up a 15-3, eight-inning decision on Tuesday, Apr. 8 at Frierson Field. MC moves to 24-15 on the season while the Reddies improve to 21-17.

Cooper's blast marked the 15th of his career and tied him for tops on the team with 11 as he relocated the 1-2 pitch over the right field wall, giving the Choctaws a 2-0 advantage, scoring Jordan Evans singled to lead off the inning.

The Dickinson, Texas, native's dinger was one of two extra-base hits on the day for the Blue and Gold as Logan Shurden doubled in the fourth and later scored to knot the contest at 3-all.

HSU responded with a steady barrage of runs, including a five-run fifth inning. The Reddies capitalized, drawing 11 walks and scoring in six of eight innings. MC used nine pitchers, with starter Taylor Ballard going 2.1 innings and reliever Parker Martin (2-1) tagged with the setback after allowing two earned runs in the fourth.

Mississippi College returns to Gulf South Conference action on Friday, Apr. 11 as it travels to the University of Alabama in Huntsville. First of the doubleheader against the Chargers is Noon.
