CLINTON, Miss. – The Mississippi College baseball team has earned the No. 6 spot in the NCAA Division II South Region rankings, announced this week by the NCAA on Wednesday, April 30. The Choctaws boast a 29-19 Division II record and a 29-18 in-region mark as they head into the postseason stretch.
The Choctaws join a competitive list of programs in the South Region, which is led by nationally renowned No. 1 Tampa (38-6, 30-4 in-region). Also ranked ahead of the Choctaws are No. 2 West Florida (31-17), No. 3 Florida Southern (32-12), No. 4 Delta State (32-16), and No. 5 Rollins (27-16).
Trailing Mississippi College in the rankings are No. 7 Lynn (28-15), No. 8 Valdosta State (29-20), No. 9 Nova Southeastern (23-18), and No. 10 Spring Hill (35-12).
The eight teams in the region advance to two four-team regionals with the winners meeting in a best-of-three super regional. The regional champion advances to the Cary, N.C. in an eight-team bracket for the national championship.
Mississippi College opens Gulf South Conference Tournament play on Friday, May 2, against West Alabama. First pitch from Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala., is set for 4 p.m. Tickets are available at GSCSports.org, with live streaming coverage on FloCollege.com.
