MEMPHIS, Tenn.  – The Mississippi College men's and women's tennis teams both earned impressive victories over Christian Brothers University in Gulf South Conference (GSC) action on Wednesday, March 26, at the CBU Tennis Complex.
Women's Tennis: Mississippi College 7, Christian Brothers 0
The Lady Choctaws dominated the match, sweeping Christian Brothers 7-0. Mississippi College took control early in doubles play, with Anna Hudson and Ann Cabot Stockett winning 6-4 in the #1 doubles match, while Rocio Martinez Azcárraga and Katharina Weber triumphed 6-4 in the #2 slot.
In singles play, Mississippi College continued its strong performance. Emma Roberts earned a hard-fought victory in the #1 spot, with CBU's Raheen Taranum retiring midway through the match. The Lady Choctaws cruised through the rest of the singles lineup, with Martinez Azcárraga, Ana Julissa De Mata, Katharina Weber, and Hudson all securing straight-set victories.
Men's Tennis: Mississippi College 6, Christian Brothers 1
The Choctaws' men's squad followed suit, securing a 6-1 win over Christian Brothers. In doubles action, Alex Benichou Blanchard and Rafael Sabio clinched a 6-4 win at the #1 position, and Florian Walcher and Gustavo Tedesco took a 6-3 win in the #2 match.
In singles play, Mississippi College clinched the victory as they won five of the six matches. Benichou Blanchard triumphed in a close match at #1 singles, defeating CBU's Juan Ycaza 6-3, 6-4. Ignacio Mora battled hard but fell to Sabio 6-3, 6-4 at the #2 position. The Choctaws finished strong, with Justin Martin and Pedro Gomez both winning their respective matches in straight sets.
Mississippi College will return to action on Friday, March 28, as they travel to Pensacola, Fla., to face the University of West Florida.
