CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Mississippi College was edged by Lee University, 1-0, in a tightly contested series finale on Saturday afternoon at Larry Carpenter Stadium. Despite the loss, the Choctaws (17-9, 10-5 GSC) claimed the series, taking two out of three games against the Flames (13-13, 6-9 GSC).
The matchup was a true pitchers' duel, with both teams locked in a scoreless battle through the first six innings. MC starter Caleb Peterson (1-2) was stellar on the mound, striking out eight over seven innings while allowing just one run on six hits. The game's only run came in the seventh inning when Malachi Cloud's RBI single brought home Josiah Miller for Lee.
The Choctaws could not generate much offensively, managing just three hits on the afternoon. Bryce LaRocca, Korey Cooper, and Bryce Capobianco each recorded a hit, but MC couldn't capitalize against Lee's pitching staff. Colt McKibben (2-0) picked up the win for the Flames, tossing seven shutout innings with six strikeouts, while Tim Gooden earned the save.
Mississippi College will look to bounce back when they return to action on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup against West Alabama. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. in Livingston, Ala.
