CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team secured its fourth straight victory with a 78-65 decision over the University of West Alabama on Thursday, Feb. 6. The outcome gives the Choctaw (13-9, 9-7 Gulf South Conference) its longest win streak of the season and improve their record to 9-0 when scoring 70-plus points.

Nia Coleman became the fourth MC player to register 20-plus points as led all players in scoring with a career-high 25 points and was one of four players wearing the Blue and Gold to total double figures. Her previous high was 16 points against Belhaven University on Nov. 14, 2024.

Tytiana Buckley tallied 14 points to finished second on the team in scoring while
Alexis Rowe added 12 points to go along with her team-best five rebounds.
Tiara Abron rounded out the quartet with 11 points.
Amelia Bell matched Rowe on the glass. It's the 16th time with 10-plus points for Abron and Buckley this season and the 10th for Bell and 37th of her career.

MC opened with the first 12 points of the contest, but was evened just a few minutes later as the Red and White strung together its own 12 straight points. It marked the only stalemate of the contest as MC closed out the period on an 11-2 run. The Blue and Gold reached its first double-digit lead one minute into the second quarter as Coleman turned a Tigers' miscue into fast break points. MC converted 27 UWA turnovers into 35 points.

UWA chipped away at the deficit and trailed by two points with 30 seconds remaining in the opening half, but Coleman reset her career scoring mark with a 3-pointer as the period closed to push the margin to 37-32. The San Ramon, Calif., native had 19 points at the intermission.

The Choctaws reached a double figure lead at the midway mark of the third quarter and held as much as a 21-point advantage the two teams headed into the final 10 minutes. Bell gave the Blue and Gold its largest lead of the game early in the final period as she drained a 3-pointer at the 8:36 mark.

Both teams lived in the paint as 30-plus of each of their points came in the area.

The win is the fourth consecutive over the Tigers – the longest in the series for the Blue and Gold. MC also improved to 7-1 against State of Alabama teams this season.

Mississippi College returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 8 as it hosts the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Tip-off is 2 p.m.
