Rowe Records Double-Double; Choctaws Best AUM

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball picked up its third straight Gulf South Conference victory as turned back Auburn University at Montgomery, 60-49, on Saturday, Feb. 1 in Montgomery. MC improved to 12-9 and 8-7 in league play.

The win streak matches the squad's longest of the season. It is the seventh in the series with the Orange and Black and fourth on its home floor.

Alexis Rowe paced the Choctaw with 22 points and 16 rebounds – her second double-double of the campaign and in as many games. It marks the second time this season the Little Rock, Ark., native has notched 20-plus points. She totaled a career-high 24 points at Trevecca Nazarene University on Jan. 13, 2025. It is the sixth time this season she's led the team in scoring and the fifth in the last six games. She also led the team with eight steals and three assists.

Joining Rowe in double figures was Tytiana Buckley with 15 points. It marks the 15th time this season Buckley has scored 10-or-more points, which ties her with Tiara Abron for tops on the team in the category.

MC trailed at the end of the first quarter, but stormed back in the second stanza, outscoring the Warhawks by seven and taking a one-point advantage into the locker room. The two teams exchanged leads in the early minutes of the third period, but the Choctaw grabbed the lead midway through and never relinquished the margin, leading by four points heading into the final minute.

AUM chipped away at the deficit and knotted the contest at 40-all. The Blue and Gold responded with a 15-5 run over the next five-plus minutes to grab a 55-45 advantage with over two minutes left. MC claimed its largest lead of the game, 60-47, with 27 seconds left.

The Choctaw forced the Warhawks into 26 turnovers in the contest – the 10th game the opposition gave the ball away 20-plus times this season – and capitalized with 18 points. The turnover total is the third highest by an opponent on the campaign.

Mississippi College returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 6, taking on the University of West Alabama. Tip-off from A.E. Wood Coliseum is 5:30 p.m.
