MONTEVALLO, Ala. --- The MC women's basketball team fell to the University of Montevallo, 70-59, on Saturday, Dec. 13 at Central State Bank Arena. MC moved to 3-6 on the season, 2-2 in the Gulf South Conference. The Falcons improved to 2-6 and grabbed its first conference win, moving to 1-3 on the campaign.
Valencia McFall powered the Choctaws' effort scoring 15 points and secured 10 rebounds, including eight on the defensive end, to earn the first MC double-double of the season. She becomes the first Choctaw with a double-double since Feb. 22, 2025.
Vivian Sketoe contributed her fourth consecutive 10-plus effort of the season and her third straight as she tallied 10 points and dished out five assists.
Ava Craddock finished with 10 points and collected eight rebounds, four of which on the offensive end.
Despite forcing 19 turnovers, scoring 19 points off those opportunities, and holding the advantage on the glass, MC was unable to overcome Montevallo's 10 3-pointers.
MC showed grit throughout the contest, trading early shots with Montevallo behind a pair of first-quarter 3-pointers from
Vivian Sketoe and a buzzer-beater from
Valencia McFall. Despite trailing 20-13 after one quarter, the Choctaws stayed within striking distance by attacking the paint in the second quarter, with
Mariam Olawoyin and Sketoe providing key baskets.
The Blue and Gold surged in the third, opening on a 6-1 run and forcing turnovers that led to fast-break points. Layups from
Nia Coleman,
Abigail Winslow, and McFall helped MC pull within two, and Winslow's buzzer-beater closed the gap to 46-44 heading into the fourth.
MC tied the game early in the final quarter on a McFall layup and continued to battle, highlighted by a late 3-pointer from Coleman. Montevallo, however, pulled away down the stretch to secure the 11-point win, as the Choctaws' comeback effort came up just short.
Elyse Hughes led Montevallo with 14 points, successfully making 6 of 8 field goals and contributing six rebounds. Hendrix added a team-high 18 points, all from beyond the arc, hitting 6 of 10 3-point attempts.
