MONTEVALLO, Ala. — Mississippi College fell to the University of Montevallo 89-62 on Saturday at Central State Bank Arena. The Choctaws managed to score 30 points in the paint, but Montevallo's 11 three-pointers contributed to their decisive victory.
The game began with Montevallo taking an early lead, highlighted by a Brandon Fussell 3-pointer just 14 seconds into the half. MC's
DeMarcus Powe responded with a jumper, assisted by
Judah Land, to keep it close at 3-2. Montevallo capitalized on MC's turnovers, with Devon McKinnon scoring from beyond the arc at 17:58 and later adding a layup at 7:09. Derek Moore's presence in the paint was significant, contributing multiple baskets and leading Montevallo to a 42-20 advantage by the end of the first half. The Blue and Gold struggled from long range, failing to convert any of their 12 3-point attempts.
Montevallo maintained its lead throughout the second half, outscoring MC 47-42 in the half to secure the victory. MC's
Marcel Bridges contributed significantly with a layup and multiple free throws early on, but Montevallo's Fussell and McKinnon responded with steady scoring, including a fast-break three-pointer at the 17:49 mark. MC struggled with turnovers, committing 12 in the second half, which Montevallo capitalized on with six steals. Despite a late effort from MC's Powe, who hit back-to-back three-pointers, Montevallo's balanced scoring attack and bench contributions sealed the win.
