Choctaws Fall to Southern Arkansas 95-76

MAGNOLIA, Ark. — Mississippi College fell to Southern Arkansas 95-76 on Tuesday night at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center. The Choctaws (3-2, 0-0 Gulf South) were led by a balanced scoring effort but could not overcome a 15 three-pointer performance by Southern Arkansas (2-2, 0-0 GAC).

Mississippi College opened the game with an early 5-0 lead following a three-pointer from Avaughn Johnson and two free throws by Phil Nelson. Southern Arkansas quickly responded with a 10-3 run, highlighted by Greg Moore Jr.'s pair of three-pointers, giving them a slight edge. The teams exchanged leads multiple times, with neither side able to secure a decisive advantage. Despite The Blue and Gold's efforts to keep pace, Southern Arkansas closed the half strong, capped by a late three-pointer from Moore Jr., extending their lead to 53-40 at the break.

Southern Arkansas maintained their lead in the second half, securing a 95-76 victory over MC. Southern Arkansas' Jair Horton opened the scoring with a three-pointer at the 18:46 mark, extending their advantage early in the half. Nelson was a standout for the Choctaws, hitting a three-pointer and adding two free throws in quick succession to keep the visitors competitive. Despite Mississippi College's efforts, including a late jumper from Jakob Vigneault with 42 seconds remaining, Southern Arkansas capitalized on their 14 points off turnovers to seal the win.
