NASHVILLE ---Â Mississippi College fell to Trevecca Nazarene in four sets at Trojan Fieldhouse. MC moved to 7-9 on the season and 4-2 in Gulf South Conference. The Trojans remain unblemished in the league at 6-0 and improve to 12-3 on the campaign.
Mary Grace Foster spearheaded the MC attack with 16 kills, contributing to her total of 17 points.
Meg Paparella added to the team's offensive efforts with four service aces, while
Cydney Mitchell recorded 11 kills and three block assists.
Samarin Kipple bolstered the defense with 16 digs and added two kills.
The Choctaws started the first set strong against TNU, quickly establishing momentum with a series of effective plays. Mitchell and Foster led the offensive effort with decisive kills, supported by key assists from
Reese Regner. MC capitalized on Trevecca's errors, including multiple attack errors, to build a significant lead.
The set featured critical service aces from Paparella, contributing to Mississippi College's scoring surge. Despite the Trojan's attempts to close the gap, the Blue and Gold maintained control through consistent execution and defensive stops, ultimately closing the first set with a 25-17 advantage.
MC opened the second set with a point from a TNU attack error, establishing early momentum. The teams exchanged points with Foster and Mitchell contributing kills to keep the score close. Despite service errors from the Purple and White, the Choctaws maintained a steady pace, highlighted by a service ace from Foster.
Midway through the set, Trevecca found success through consistent offensive plays, widening their lead with multiple kills. The Blue and Gold responded with a service ace from
Felicity Pratt, narrowing the gap. However, Trevecca Nazarene capitalized on key attacks to extend their advantage, sealing the frame 25-18, despite a late offensive push from Mississippi College that included a kill by Paparella.
MC entered the third set aiming to overturn the momentum established by Trevecca. Regner and Foster connected early to narrow the gap, resulting in a kill that brought the score to 6-2. MC capitalized on a series of opponent errors to close within one point at 8-7, showcasing resilience through the effective play of Pratt and
Holland Williams.
As the set progressed, the Blue and Gold fought back from a 14-10 deficit with a series of kills from Pratt and Foster, bringing the score to 14-13. Despite a service error that set them back, the visiting team maintained pressure with consecutive points, closing the gap to 18-16 with contributions from Pratt. The set culminated in a tense back-and-forth where Foster's persistent attacks helped MC reach 23 points. However, a final kill by Addison Cunnagin for Trevecca Nazarene concluded the set at 25-23 in favor of the home team.
In the fourth set, the Trojans seized early momentum with a service ace and maintained their lead through consistent serving and effective net play. MC showcased resilience as Mitchell delivered critical kills to keep the team in contention, pulling the score to a 7-all tie after a service ace from Paparella. However, a series of service aces by Trevecca's Kayla Bullard widened the gap, pushing the score to 14-7 in favor of the home team. Trevecca Nazarene capitalized on errors and maintained their advantage, closing the set with a 25-14 victory.
MC continues GSC play on Tuesday, Oct. 7 as it travels to Huntsville, Ala., to take on UAH. First serve is slated for 6 p.m.
