Choctaws Receive GSC Academic Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- Mississippi College Athletics ranked high again as the Gulf South Conference office announced the Fall Academic Honor Roll on Friday, Jan. 17. 

The Blue and Gold placed 126 student-athletes on the conference academic honor roll, making the institution one of only two to surpass 100 athletes on the academic honor roll. West Florida led the way with 141 student-athletes recognized. This is the fifth consecutive fall semester that MC has reached the century mark. 

Choctaw Athletics was well represented on the All-GSC Academic Team list with five total nominations coming from women's soccer, men's soccer, women's cross country, men's cross country, and football.

The Gulf South Conference honored a whopping 1,129 student-athletes on the honor roll, with 157 of these students earning a 4.0 GPA. In order to be nominated to the GSC All-Academic Team, a student athlete must post a minimum grade point average of 3.20 overall, and they must be a starter/key contributor to their program. Freshmen, along with any student-athlete who has not spent a full year in residence at the sponsoring GSC school and passed 24 semester hours/36 quarter hours that count towards a degree program, are not eligible for the All-Academic teams. 

Every student-athlete that has achieved a grade point average of 3.00 out of a possible 4.00 when it releases its annual Academic Honor Roll is honored by the Gulf South Conference. Student-athletes also must have competed against outside competition.
