CLINTON, Miss. — In a gripping match on Monday, the Mississippi College men's soccer team edged out Christian Brothers University (CBU) 3-2 in Gulf South Conference (GSC) action at home.
The Choctaws struck first in the 13th minute when Alvaro Pena found the net, assisted by Lewis Matton. The early goal set the tone for an intense match, as MC aimed to capitalize on their home advantage.
The second half saw CBU come alive, with Vincenzo Giordano leveling the score at 1-1 in the 53rd minute. Just over 20 minutes later, Alexander Blanche scored for the Bucs, giving CBU a 2-1 lead.
With time running out, Mississippi College responded decisively. Lewis Matton equalized in the 85th minute, marking his 11th goal of the season. Just a minute later, Denis O. John netted the game-winner, securing the dramatic comeback for MC.
The Choctaws finished the match with 12 shots, four of which were on goal, while CBU recorded 10 shots with four on target. MC's defense held strong, allowing only two goals and earning four corner kicks.
Next, Mississippi College (4-3-1, 2-2-0 GSC) will look to build on this momentum when they travel to Delta State on October 11. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
