BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Mississippi Christian University soccer players Harry McLean and Faith Clark earned weekly honors from the Gulf South Conference following standout performances for the Choctaws last week.

McLean was recognized following a three-goal week for the Mississippi Christian men's soccer team, while Clark was named the GSC Women's Soccer Defender of the Week after helping the Lady Choctaws post a pair of road victories.

McLean, a freshman forward from Motherwell, Scotland, provided the offensive spark for the Choctaws during their two-match homestand against Sunshine State Conference opponents.

The freshman scored twice in Mississippi Christian's 3-0 victory over Eckerd on Friday, accounting for the first two goals of the match. McLean broke a scoreless tie in the 58th minute off an assist from Hayden Mulrooney before the duo connected again less than nine minutes later to double the MC advantage.

McLean finished the victory with four shots, placing three on goal, as the Choctaws earned their first win and first shutout of the season.

He followed that performance by finding the back of the net again Sunday against Florida Southern. With Mississippi Christian trailing 1-0, McLean scored the equalizer in the 28th minute off an assist from Gage Sorey. The Moccasins eventually escaped with a 2-1 victory.

McLean totaled three goals on five shots across the two matches, placing four attempts on goal. Through four matches this season, he leads Mississippi Christian with four goals and eight points.

On the women's side, Clark helped anchor the Mississippi Christian back line during a 2-0 road trip through Oklahoma.

The junior defender played 169 minutes across the two victories, including a crucial role in the Lady Choctaws' 1-0 win over Oklahoma Christian on Thursday.

Mississippi Christian was forced to play with 10 players for approximately 85 minutes after receiving an early red card, but Clark and the MC defense kept the Eagles off the scoreboard despite sustained pressure. Oklahoma Christian finished with 12 shots and 10 corner kicks, but the Lady Choctaws held firm before Caroline McCutchen delivered the game-winning goal in the 84th minute.

Clark returned to the starting lineup Saturday and played 89 minutes as Mississippi Christian defeated East Central 4-2 in Ada, Oklahoma. The Lady Choctaws built a 3-0 halftime advantage and added a late insurance goal to secure their third victory of the season.

The two wins improved Mississippi Christian to 3-1 on the season.

Clark's recognition marks the first GSC Defender of the Week honor for a Mississippi Christian women's soccer player this season.

Both Mississippi Christian soccer programs will turn their attention to Gulf South Conference play as the Choctaws continue their early-season schedules.
