Men’s Soccer Shuts Out Delta State 2-0 in GSC Play

CLEVELAND, Miss. – Mississippi College secured a 2-0 victory over Delta State University in Gulf South Conference play on Friday, with goals from Lewis Matton and Denis O. John leading the Choctaws to their fifth win of the season.

Matton opened the scoring early in the match, netting a goal in the 7th minute off an assist from Santi Diosa to give the Choctaws (5-3-1, 3-2-0 GSC) a 1-0 lead. Delta State (2-3-5, 1-2-2 GSC) fought to equalize but struggled to break through Mississippi College's defense, which allowed only six total shots, three of which were on goal.

The Choctaws extended their lead in the 75th minute when Denis O. John scored his third goal of the season, assisted by Matton, sealing the 2-0 win. Mississippi College dominated the shot count 12-6, with five on target compared to Delta State's three.

Goalkeeper Cole Turner recorded three saves in the shutout, playing the full 90 minutes.
